We thought after 21 years with the Essendon Football Club, that the main man in charge, Kevin Sheedy would of had enough. After 21 pretty succesful season's with the Essendon Football club which saw them win the premiership in 2000, Kevin Sheedy would not return to the coaching rink again. 2009 is a different story. The Fremantle Football club, after a dreadful 2008 season under the helm of Mark Harvey, The Fremantle Football club we're looking for a new coach before the 2009 season began.
Surprising to the club, that Kevin Sheedy approached them, and intended on being interested in the job. I don't even think that the Fremantle board hesitated, before handing the job to one of the best coaches of the modern game. Just a season out from getting rid of the job from Windy Hill, Sheedy follows his Essendon counter-part, Mark Harvey, and will lead the Fremantle Dockers into the 2009 season.

It's fantastic for the club who have been struggling over the past couple of years, say members off the Fremantle community. Someone with Sheedy's knowledge and expereience about the game will be good for our team and with our younger player's coming through the team. Players like Palmer, and Hill and Ibbotson, they'll learn a lot from Sheedy.
It's going to be a interesting year ahead for the Dockers. What will turn out happening? We'll see as you follow the Dockers round by round in their journey to make September.

Key Changes to 2009

Chris Tarrant to Full Back - Kevin Sheedy has always seen Tarrant to be a good defender. He sometimes gets lost in the forward line, and i dont think has never shown his true qualities in the forward 50. However, he has been a good player in his career, but over the past few years, Tarrant has been played down back on numerous occasions, and he has done extremely well on the key forwards. Tarrant know's when to lead against the opponents, and has the strength to go with the likes of Hall and Franklin.

Luke McPharlin to Full Forward - Luke just has more attributes to give then Tarrant does in the forward line. He is more vesatile and more athletic, and can take a strong contested mark. We had him playing down back last season, but i think he will be more useful in the forward line, and can contribute heavily in the scoring. 30-40 goals this season will be good season for McPharlin. He we certainly need some help in the forward line though without Tarrant and Pavlich.

Matthew Pavlich into the midfield - One good strong move. I think our club needs to move forward, so our midfield needs to build around a strong body. Pavlich is that man. It leaves the door ajar for the likes of McPharlin and Kepler Bradley to take the key position spots in the forward line. Pavlich has the strength and endurance to run in the midfield for 90% of the game, and if need being, he can rest in the forward line, where he can be a handy contributor to the goal tally. One of our best player's we have, but he needs to show it this season and lead the way for the young troops.

Round 1: Collingwood vs Fremantle @ MCG - Saturday, March 22nd

Freo's woeful kicking the result in defeat

1st quarter - The first quarter was fairly even to begin with. Both teams were hard at the ball and didn't allow much space for anyone to get through. The ball travelled up and down the wings, as none of the forward's could get a clean take on the ball. Alan Didak broke the shackles at the 14 minute mark of the quarter slotting a goal home from about 35 meters out. Ryan Murphy for the Dockers had the answer to that goal though, when he slotted hom a goal with just under 8 minutes remaning for the term. But after that result, Collingwood steamed in and kicked 3 un answered goals to finish out the first quarter.
Collingwood: 4.8. (32)
Fremantle: 1.0 - (6)

2nd quarter - The second quarter was one of the most un skilled type of football i have ever seen. A total of 11 behinds were scored for the quarter, as Collingwood finished out the term kicking 2.4 to the Docker's 7 behinds. The poor kicking from both teams have let themselves down, and the game should be much more evenly poised. It took almost 20 minutes into the second quater for someone to score, and it was Shane OBree who broke the draught kicking a wonderful goal. Leon Davis then showed us his magic when he kicked the second goal of the quarter just before the half time siren.
A very dissapointing half from the Docker's, as they'll need to lift their game immensly if they're going to be anywhere in this match.
Collingwood: 6.12. (48)
Fremantle: 1.7. (13)

3rd quarter - The half time break couldn't come any quicker for the Docker's as they had to travel the first game of the season. They were down by 35 points at half time, in front of 33 and a half thousand people. But again, both sides played some horrible football. The Docker's played reasonably well and matched it on the scoreboard for the quarter kicking 2.2. Paul Medhurst got the ball rolling for the Pies, taking a strong mark about 52 meters out, took his time and roosted the ball through the big stick's to lift the Pies, by this time the game all but looked dead for the Dockers. Youngster Garrick Ibbotson replied with a beautiful running goal just minutes after the Medhurst goal to put the scoreboard looking a little more reasonable, but one Travis Cloke scored again just 1 minute after the Ibbotson goal, the Docker's again looked rattled. 15 minutes of hard footy was good for the contest, but with a late goal scored to Luke McPharlin at the 3 minute mark of the 3rd quarter, the Docker's had their tail's up, and going into the last change, were looking for a comeback.
Collingwood: 8.14. (62)
Fremantle: 3.9. (27)

4th quarter - With all the energy the Docker's took from the 3rd quarter into the last change, had them rattled in the last quarter. Collingwood came out stronger and faster, and with the help of some very good work from Leon Davis, who kicked 2 goals to open the last quarter, all but buried the chances off Fremantle winning the game. Davis slootted home the first goal just 40 seconds into the last quarter, and then another one back to back just minutes later.
All but was lost for the Docker's who had struggled to find a forward all afternoon, but when Garrick Ibbotson scored at the 12th minute mark, he became the Docker's only multiple goal scorer. The last 2 goals of the match were headed Collingwood's way, as Shane OBree slooted home his second for the night, and Tarkyn Lockyer finished off the work with a good goal from straight in front about 15 meters out.
Collingwood: 12.16. (88)
Fremantle: 4.11. (35)

You would think that Sheeds would have enough coaching for his entire life :P Anyways bad loss against the Pies. I dont think it will get any better against the Hawks, they have a squad full of stars.

Yeah he might of had enough, but with his experience, Freo decided to pick him up, and offered him A LOT of money!! :D:p
