Do we really need to count leg byes as extras ? It makes no sense.Rather, they could award the leg byes to the batsman.

Your views on this.

I get the feeling a century made up of some leg byes, and some very good shots, wouldn't feel very special.

Main thing is If you count that runs in batsman's account then you must have count that runs in Bowler's colum, which make it worst means most of time Batsman gets beaten when its leg bye so I don't think Bowlers will much appriciate that.:p

It makes perfect sense that the batsman must hit the ball to score runs. Maybe the question you should ask is "why should the batsman be allowed to run byes?"

Because the fielding team should be punished for bad bowling or fielding. The batsman shouldn't be rewarded, but the team should because it's impossible to punish one team without rewarding the other.

Well sometimes the batsmen is rewarded for a good bowl and him edging it with it going over slip and runs for 4, so we should count edges as extras?

Yes they should be extras. Simply because I tihnk it is the batsmen fault they have missed the ball an therefore should not be awarded the runs..

Of course they are extras. The aim of the game is to hit the ball and score runs. True if you edge the ball and it runs away for four it didn't go where you intended it to but you still hit it!

exactly, you still hit it and got caught in slips even though thats not where u intended.

LegByes should NOT BE AWARDED to the batsmen at all. Runs are to be scored with bat, not anything else.

But on the other hand, legbyes should be awarded against bowlers like wides and no balls. Byes is a different case although.
