Limiting Piracy of Cricket Games

Some 10,000? That's my estimate, considering how quickly interest dropped here after release.

Considering I only need to get within 100,000 - how about 25,000 copies.

Damn - you got me there :)

The initial order for FIFA was 7,000 units for ALL of India - I was staggered to learn this during this last week.... and it has me more than worried.

So I ask this question, in all seriousness, to the guys in India here - is it really that bad? Are there any suggestions at all as to how to address the issue? Is the issue really that there just isn't the money available?

I want distribution in India and we are talking to people, indeed have been for a long time, but I can't see how it is viable except via digital distribution.

How could you possibly guess that?

I was no-where near it, knowing the population and the fact that it supports keyboard, I thought it had to be 100,000 minimum.

120 million ross.

Ross, is there a way to lock the multiplayer mode so it needs the original CD copy or something like that.

It ain't just the issue of money, it's something more to do with the Indian market playing catch up with regards to games and some more issues.

ROSS how many copies do u hope to sell or think will sell.HOW MANY COPIES DO CRICKET GAMES GENERALLY SELL WORLDWIDE.so that we know how big the market is compared to other games.

Well Mike from trickstar said ashes 2009 was like a million, so near that number could happen.

It's as much where they sell that is important because anyone can sell at a loss :)

Australia is the most profitable, followed by England, and I thought India would be third but I now expect that New Zealand and South Africa would have more retail units than India.

consile multiplayer market is small in india.online mostly played on pc.those copies will sell more if online multiplayer is the games main focus.if not consoles out sell.any ways the ps2 market is still huge in india.(the biggest).are those only ps3 sales or all platforms.

Unless the physical distribution is of a disc containing an installer that needs to check online to install. I think the retail versions of most Valve games are like that.

Most people don't play multiplayer - I think it's less than 10% who use it regularly on most normal games.

Locking down multiplayer is a tiny piece in the puzzle.

Perhaps he's including the pirated versions. Ross mentioned a while back that supposedly even BLC 99 didn't make it to 1 million as the most successful cricket game so far.

Piracy's a huge problem over here, that's why.

I've had a large group of people call me 'mad' because I bought FIFA, and because I was against piracy. A lot also wanted to nab my game for free of cost, from me. They requested it, one fella even stole my DVD case, hoping to get the disc, thank God I had it in my PC!

People here are used to get entertainment in a cheap way, movie tickets are quite cheap here, and maybe that's got something to do with games?

Locking down multiplayer is a must I feel, that's the reason why FIFA sales soared up a bit over here.

I still am yet to see a copy of Ashes Cricket 09 being played over here TBH, the reason being the system requirements.

Ross if this is the case with india, let the real fans download the game or just get it delivered from the uk/aus. It's not that hard.

I know that man is full of something brown I say;), if you make a little money on the game ross and beat ashes 2013 in sales and a better game then win win I say.

Not a great suggestion IMO. There are online stores, which is the main market for Indian gaming apart from a small few who buy from big stores.

Cool I don't know india and have never been there, I guess ross will have to try to track how many copies of the game sell in india after release and go from there.
