The date is the 1st of April 2010,

The summer of cricket is close, and that smell of freshly cut grass, and the sound of bat and ball is almost upon us.

Over the past few months, England have enjoyed highs and lows, from holding on twice in South Africa, taking a 1-0 lead, and then losing the final test, then to winning the 1st T20 against Pakistan in a neutral 2-match series, only to lose the 2nd match and tie the series.
However, those past few months have seen many players improve, and some have played consistently through many innings to see England become more of a force in all forms of the game.

England have a busy summer ahead of them, they'll be welcoming Bangladesh before the summer's big event, Pakistan are coming to England for a Test and ODI series.

All this will hopefully be great preparation for the coming winter's Ashes tour down-under. England will want to retain the Urn that they won in '09, and defend them with more fight than they did in 06-07, when they succumbed to Warne and co. 5-0.

So, follow them here, there'll be highs, and there'll be lows, but whatever happens, England are on a Quest to the top.

Shakib To Lead Bangladesh

96647.jpg

Bangladesh arrived at London's Heathrow Airport last night, ahead of their tour of England. An 18-man squad touched down at Terminal 4 early this morning after a delay in their flight meant that they arrived at just after 4am this morning.

New captain, Shakib al Hasan, was the first to push through the arrival doors, and looked confident that his team could spring a few surprises against England in the upcoming Test and One-Day series.

All of the Bangladesh squad were very tired, and were not commenting on any questions put forward to them, so it was hard to understand what their expectations were for the tour.

Bangladesh are playing a One-Day match against Middlesex in a few days time, and that will be the first early indication of how the Bangladeshis are performing. After that, they'll play the England Lions, before the international action starts on the 15th.

Bangladesh Squad:
Shakib al Hasan (C), Mohammed Ashraful (VC), Abdur Razzak, Mahmudullah, Shahadat Hossain, Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim, Junaid Siddique, Mehrab Hossain, Raqibul Hasan, Syed Rasel, Imrul Kayes, Dhiman Ghosh, Mohammed Rafique, Naeem Islam, Aftab Ahmed, Shafiul Islam

Bangladesh Start Well

Tim Murtagh hits out for Middlesex

Bangladesh held on to win a nervous encounter against Middlesex at Uxbridge.

In the first game of the tour, Middlesex won the toss and elected to bowl first. After the first few overs, it seemed as if it would be an even contest between bat and ball, however Middlesex had got the early wicket of Kayes. Bangladesh were left at 64/3 when Andrew Strauss took a low catch to remove Aftab Ahmed for 39. Middlesex were looking strong, especially after removing Shakib for only 26, and at one stage, Bangladesh were 114 for 6 wickets. They managed to claw back a bit, but when Shaun Udal trapped Shafiul Islam LBW for 27, Bangladesh began to run out of batsmen, and it looked as if Middlesex might have them all out for less than 180. However, inspired batting from Mahmudullah meant that Bangladesh reached a modest total of 194 all out.

Middlesex started a lot better, with Strauss and Newman playing some beautiful shots. Newman fell early, run out on 19 and Strauss followed soon after, it suddenly seemed as if the good start was over, and the wickets were tumbling. Middlesex's batsmen were slow, and Stirling and Dexter only added 7 from 13 deliveries. The runs were slow, but there was a lack of wickets, and a great partnership between Malan and O'Brien lifted Middlesex's hopes. However, with 20 overs to go, they needed 100 runs, but with only 5 wickets left, things were going to be tight. And tight they were, Malan kept the scoreboard ticking over, but soon fell after setting himself nicely, out for 33, he departed with the score 119/6. Eight overs to go, and the score was 152/7 more runs needed, but Middlesex weren't done yet. The required run rate was over 8 with 2 overs to go, but Tim Murtagh was determined to win the match, however, with 9 runs needed off the final over, Murtagh got out, Middlesex still had another batsmen, but the runs didn't come, and Bangladesh held on to win.
