Day 1

Australia look set for huge total after bright start

Australia made the most of a good batting wicket on day one of the 4th test , winning the toss captain Ricky Ponting decided to have a bat and what a desision that turned out to be as Hayden & Langer put on 133 for the 1st wicket ,all in all it was a good day for the hosts as 4 players racked up half centuries , Hayden(66) Langer(95) Clarke(60) and Hussey(56no) all put England`s bowling to the sword with only Ponting susprisingly struggling for runs ,Australia finsihed the day on 320-4 ,and the way things were going England can expect a long day tomorrow.

Day 2

Warne`s late treble checks England progress

A exellent display of spin bowling by Shane Warne but the brakes on England`s 1st innings ,having made a decent start Warne was given the ball in the last hour of the day`s play and boy did he deliver taking 3-20 in a awsome spell , the key wicket being that of in-form Ali Cook who was looking good for his 41 till be was bowled by a Warne flipper.
Earlier on Australia moved from 320-4 to 441-all out , Gilchrist(50) & Symonds(52) being added to the half century makers for this innings ,Shaun Tait chipped in with a dogged 27 down the order.

Day 3

England forced to follow on after Warne haul

It was another bad day for England in the 4th test match in Melbourne , with Pietersen & Flintoff at the crease and the team at 112/4 the nerves must of been jangling and after seeing out the first few overs well Australia delt England a double blow when Flintoff was removed by McGrath for 17 and then Pietersen for 30 off Tait in consecutive overs ,it wasn`t the start the England camp wanted , only Geraint Jones making his first appearance of the series stood up the the bowlers carrying his bat till the end (20no) the rest collapsed as usual leaving England 178 all out still 263 runs behind .
Ricky Ponting asked the tourists to follow on and with their heads down and morale non-exsistant Ali Cook was bowled by McGrath for 2 and things looked bleak at Lunch on day 3.
England came out fighting after Lunch in what was refreshing to see , going after the bowling with Shaun Tait in particular getting some treatment ,captain Ponting made a good move when he brought in Warne and it payed immedietly when Strauss thin edged to 1st slip for 44 , but quietly and iffeciently Michael Vaughan was going about his buisness and helped himself to a lovely four off Lee to bring up his 50 , Kevin Pietersen looked in the mood as well smashing poor Tait for 20 off one over ,but the tide again turned in the last 10 overs of the days play , Tait who was expensive bowled Vaughan two short of his ton , all credit to Tait who kept at it despite the figures next to his name not looking good but now he had the wicket of Englands captain , couple overs later out of sorts Bell was late on a Lee yorker leaving a mess of his off stump , England finishing on 202/4

Day 4

Warne heroics wraps up 4th test

Shane Warne finsihed off England`s reply by taking 7-51 is an awsome display of bowling , starting the day on 202/4 with Pietersen & Flintoff at the crease with Pietersen quicky moving on to 50 ,after 10 overs or so with Lee & McGrath, Ponting again made a good desision by bringing in Warne before England tried to get settled and it worked a miracle as Flintoff tried to run one down off stump only to push the ball into the safe hands of Gilchrist , Paul Collingwood then came out to the centre after being out for a duck in the 1st innings Warne gave him a stare and a few words were said but Collingwood got a few good nicks to get him going ,Pietersen on the other hand was on fire smashing the ball all over the ground .
The breakthrough came when Collingwood totally missed a sweep shot to find the bails falling behind him clean bowled for 12 ,Geriant Jones who showed some nice touches in the 1st innings joined Pietersen .
There was an almighty roar in the 90th over when Tait bowled a wide one which Pietersen went for getting a big edge to Hayden , but the fielder couldn`t hold onto it mainly due to the pace it came at him , next over they had their man Pietersen out for 81 going for the big hop down the wicket only to see Warne out smart him with a slower ball , once again the tail subsided , all over in the 98th over , all out for 306.
Needeing 44 to win Australia lost the one wicket , Hoggard bowling Hayden for 12 , Ponting and Langer saw the hosts home . 4-0 Australia

Duncan Fletcher
"Very dissapointed with the way we played in the first two days ,just like in the previous test matches we seem to get going in day3 which by that time we are in a big hole which we can`t get out of , again individual performances by Pietersen & Vaughan was the highlight of our contribution and something we hope to take to Sydney as i thought we did good in our second innings , the lads are desperate to win one for the barmy army and also go into the one day series on a higher note."

John Buchanan
" Delighted with the boys , we showed that leaving Clark & Watson who were on form to give Symonds & Tait a run out didn`t change a thing in how we went about our task and shows how we have depth in the side and the competition for places can only be a good thing . Was happy for Warney how has been in the shadows of the seemers this series but in this test showed how he can destroy a team , next test will all be about Warne , Langer , and McGrath who all play their fairwell test for Australia , im sure all of Sydney will come out for the occasion."
