Australia vs England 1st Test match - Brisbane

Day 3

England forced to follow on

England are staring defeat in the face as day 3 came to an end , starting the day on 60-4 they really needed some stablility in their innings and with Pietersen and Bell at the crease it was a must ,but Australia are flying at the moment and Pietersen was soon back in the pavillion bolwed by McGrath for 25 , Bell dug deep to find a 50 but he didn`t have any support as the lower order was some destroyed with only Harmison(21) offering any resistance , Bell soon went after his 50 again McGrath the bowler ,it soon filtered out to a all out total of 174 leaving them still 332 behind .
Ricky Ponting then asked England to bat again , and before too long Pietersen & Bell were at the crease again as Lee ripped through the top order ,leaving them on 142-3 at stumps

Day 4

Exellent Lee wraps up 1st test for Australia

Australia won the 1st test at Brisbane by an innings and 8 runs , starting the day on 142-3 England`s Pietersen and Bell were being asked to do the near impossible and hold Australia , but Pietersen soon departed for 46 and the heads went down as Flintoff was out for 10 but still Bell played his normal game moving to his 2nd half century of this test match he was aided by Chris Read who played some lovely shots . The barmy army were off the seats again when Bell reached his ton but it was inevitable what the out right result was going to be ,Bell played a sloppy shot off Lee and was caught at square leg by Ponting and the tail was destroyed ,so Australia take the 1st test in convincing style .

News conference

both team coaches made a statement on the 1st test outcome and their thoughts for the 2nd test which starts on tuesday at Adalaide

Duncan Fletcher : "Yes it was dissapointing to lose the 1st test in such a heavy manner , the 1st day was the big blow for our side , we wern`t at the races on day 1 meaning Australia got a chance to hit a big score and by the time we got our act together the damage had already been done .We will re-group for the 2nd test our morale is still high and we aim to get it back to 1-1 ."
Michael Vaughan " I myself am dissapointed with my own contrabution to the 1st test ,all credit to the Australian bowlers when they had us at 60-4 at stumps on day 2 they kept at us never giving our lads a chance to settle at the crease ,Ian Bell was magnificant in both innings and i feel sorry that he has ended up in the losing side , we have had a long chat about our performance at Brisbane and we will put it right .

John Buchanan " Totally proud of the way we dominated from start to finish never giving England a chance to settle ,big hundreds from Hayden & Ponting layed the platform for our bowlers to get at them im sure their confidence had gone when asked to follow on in the 1st ashes test match and im sure they will be out to prove they are no pushovers at Adalaide on tuesday".
Adam Gilchrist "As vice captain it was fantastic to come away with such a big win in the 1st test , hopefully we can follow this form up at Adalaide ,on a personal reason i was pleased with my 1st innings of 55 , one thing is we will not take England lightly despite this win ,they arnt here just to make up the numbers and im sure they will want to bounce back in the 2nd test".

Brilliant batting from Ian Bell, just dissapointed none of his team mates could follow on the great innings. However the Aussies played extremly well.. well done mate

Australia vs England 2nd Test - Adalaide

Day 1

England fail to capitalize after solid start

England finished the day on 266-6 but it could have been oh so much better for the tourists ,England won the toss and went into bat a exellent start from Strauss and Cook seemed to silence the Australian crowd ,Cook who was under pressure after a poor 1st test looked fired up as he smashed some boundries ,the pair eventully fell with Strauss making his 50 , but this is where England let the hosts back at them , Vaughan went slicing one to 3rd slip for 28 then Bell was removed soon after for 17 , Pietersen was caught brilliantlly by Hayden at 3rd slip off Stuart Clark and things looked more gloomy for England , Flintoff steadied the ship with a fluent 50 ,and was 62no at stumps.

Australia vs England 2nd Test - Adalaide

Day 2

Australia take command at the crease

It was a terrible day 2 for England at stumps ,having started the day on 266-6 only 29 runs were added ,Flintoff who was 62no overnight went in the 2nd over of the day without adding to his score , Ashley Gile added a couple before being bowled by McGrath who was on fire in the morning session , eventully England 295 all out .
Australia got off to a solid start with boundries flying in all directions of the ground ,that was until James Anderson gave Langer a short delivery which he then tried to hook only to find Ian Bell at mid-off for 35. Mathew Hayden soon reached his 50 then raced to 79 before edging to Pietersen at 1st slip .Ricky Ponting the skipper is still there on 79no and looking very in form after his ton in Brisbane , Australia 246-2 at close
