MS Dhoni-Hack or Star?

Well that's a load of rubbish. Noone's anti-Pakistani, it's just common sense. Saying Afridi isn't a mindless slogger is like saying Don Bradman isn't the greatest batsman of all time. Afridi would be close to the most overrated batsman of the last decade.

What talent? Dhoni is the slogger here, not Afridi.

Pakistan 6/27, 40 overs to bat and 4.5 an over required...

11.1 Afridi goes for the pull and the ball goes through to the keeper
11.2 another swing and a miss ...well outside the off stump
11.3 SIX, short...ball sails over the midwicket fence
11.4 FOUR
11.5 ...good length delivery outside the off stump, another Afridi swing fails to make contact - was nowhere near the line of that one
11.6 3 runs, clipped away off the pad
12.1 OUT, ...pitched on middle and off...makes room and swings hard...bat was nowhere near the line of the ball...ball hits the pad...loud appeal is upheld

Intelligent innings that, although it's above par considering he'd scored 83 runs at 6.91 in his last 15 games before this joke of an effort.

I'm not a slogger, I just have a bit of a swing at everything and it works...sometimes...rarely...

You guys are clearly disillusioned if you think Afridi is a mindless slogger. Don't sort of comments don't even warrant a reply.

How is everyone disillusional? You seem to be the only one who disagrees.

Why try to back up Afridi anyway? Pakistan has much better batsman. Like Yousuf, Younis & Inzy.

You have a lot of self-belief in your bowling attack don't you?

To hear it from an Indian: Our pace bowlers are crap!

And actually mate- A lot of people here are anti-Pakistani. No need to give names; but it's quite plain to see.
I haven't said that they are crap i have said that they r not the best in the world, don't play with words. Most of his hundreds came on the flat tracks.Again no one here is anti pakistani, its just a different opinion on Afridi that is making u to think like that.

No matter what the state of the game, all Afridi does is try and hit the ball out of the ground. That's fine late in the innings in ODIs, or even nearing a declaration in a Test. But in the situation Brad posted it was obvious Pakistan needed a sensible innings with a settled batsman. All Afridi tried to do was smash it out of the ground. He's a moron.

Has Afridi ever comtemplated taking up baseball? I heard Midge Johnson got an offer from the Boston Redsox but turned the offer down.

So, why isn't he playing for Pakistan now? Don't tell me the Pakistani selectors are anti-Pakistani !!

my personal opinion, so you can say what you want about it, is that Afridi can be a mindless slogger and i don't feel he is a team player. Compare him to Gilchrist, him and gilly score at about the same rate. The thing is gilchrist is more consistent than afridi and can actually play big and fast innings most of the time. Gilchrist does it for a reason to get the innings off flying. All afridi does is come out and try and blast form the off.

I completely agree with your personal opinion.

Ok. I disagree with most being said here.

Dhoni, I feel, is very talented with the bat. He doesn't, however, seem to me the type who can bat for a whole day or so. Is keeping I felt early on was average, but he has improved a lot in the CT and in RSA, and I am very impressed. He is great for the team in the ODI arena - quick runs and flexibility. His keeping has also improved too, and he shows great teamwork and work ethics. He deserves a spot in the WC. If he takes care of his batting and develops a more quiet temperment -something I think might come with experience- then he can become a legendary batsman. As for his test spot, well, everyone knows how I feel :p And seeing DDK's performance today, well, that just sums up my arguement quite nicely. All he needs is a fabulous catch or stumping, then I can consider myself smarter than the Indian selectors :p :D

And just a side note on Afridi - He is a great hitter, probably doesn't use his talent as well as he can, but recently, his performances in domestic cricket shows that he wants to bat for longer. He isn't brainless, has one of the finest cricketing minds acually, but is a showman who treats batting as a fun thing, treats cricket as it is, a game. He wants to entertain.
Glad I got that off my chest :p

lol this is a topic about Dhoni not Afridi, but i will say that Afridi has great skill but he doesnt use it the right way, he is way more skilled than Dhoni but Dhoni can control him self Afridi rarely can and when he does he makes good scores. Dhoni is a good batsman and a OK WK, he seems to get out in the 40s alot maybe wanting do get that half century distracts him but his keeping has not been the greatest. for me he is #4 or #5 keeper in the world, with kumar, gilchrist, Boucher infront of him and than its between Akmal and Dhoni for me atleast.

I Agree He is not a mindless slogger he is a rare talent who still has not been
utilized well and dropped and picked he is a good bowler and a good lower
order batsman capable of destroying attacks.

But what have you seen in dhoni that hurts you he is an upcoming young cricketer he may not be gilly he may not be the best in the world with gloves
but the thing is he has a sound temparament and he is improving no body is perfect but if you saw his keeping he has improved immensly and his batting
on bouncy tracks have been better than most sub continental batsman of what i have seen. Also the injury i think its a precaution indian management took as he is important in the long term so this thread makes no sense please close it.

Excatly what cricket god said. He is improving a lot. His batting against short bowling is a lot better, his keeping a lot tidier.
