Bye Murali. To be frank, I was never a big fan of him for most part of his career (started liking him only after he started playing for Chennai SK). But the guy had incredible stamina to last this long and was a superb character. Even when the team is losing, the smile on his face would be so refreshing to see.

A perfect case of "should have retired a while ago"
He is leaving the game now as a mediocre player, should have retired as a legend after breaking Warne's record. Hhe overstayed his welcome to greedily pad his personal stats and I lost a lot of respect for him the last 2 years.

Finally chucking it in after after all these years is he. Someone must have told him Sri Lanka aren't playing Bangladesh again for a while
Nice choice of words! :laugh And yes, Murali does love a good Bangladeshi wicket: 89 of them @ 13.37. Doesn't mind Zimbabwe either: 87 wickets @ 16.86. Unfortunately for him, those numbers against the minnows are going to mean that post-retirement he won't quite get the full credit he deserves.
I've got a lot of time for Murali. For starters a great bowler, but he also seems like a guy who just loves his cricket and is always walking around with a smile. Those guys are my favourites.

Good he's leaving, tired of watching him getting smashed all over the park nowadays especially by the Indian batsmen. Have to agree with Mark there, he's clearly overstayed even though he's been out of form for a long time.
Nevertheless, a true legend of the game and he's served the game really well but I don't think he should be missed now, should have retired a long time back. Good riddance it is.

Take a bow :hpraise. One of the greatest cricketers of all time retires. I agree he overstayed a bit but it is always very to tough to leave the spotlight. Besides being a great bowler, Murali is a very humble and decent fellow. I have never seen him talk much to a batsman. A true legend of the game. We will miss you Murali. Now have some good time with your family and folks.

To come back from being labeled a chucker to nearly dying in Pakistan and hold the throne of highest wicket taker of all time - amazing.
Was lucky to meet him when they did the testing of his bowling action at UWA. I kept wicket - badly.

It's always difficult for a player to decide when he will leave the game. Its said that it always good to leave with people saying Why rather then saying Thank You for playing.
I think the temptation to play other world cup and that too in own country was what keeping Murali interested in playing. The sudden lack of form for Mendis also did not help as that would have allowed him to say good bye to shorter version sooner. Anyways when you are such a legend in your country, you do not get dropped or selectors stop picking you (Its sub continent thing).
Will be huge loss for Lankan cricket. Possibly biggest star and impact player for them after Arvinda left.

I respect his attitude more than his bowling talent. He always plays with a smile on his face. That's the right way to play the game. A true gentleman.
