With Papua New Guinea's victory against Oman opening the way for one of the other teams in this group to hope to qualify in second place, Malaysia took full advantage in a short match. The top order batsmen on both sides struggled on a swing-friendly pitch in New Zealand, and came out tied at the halfway stage. Malaysia were disappointed with their third innings score, totalling only 274 and leaving Singapore 265 to chase. However, it proved to be enough. Left at 73-7, a very late cameo from Raman was not enough to swing the match back in their favour. After just one match, Singapore's hopes of qualifying look to have already been extinguished.

The table is as follows:
1. Malaysia - 21pts
2. Papua New Guinea - 20pts
3. Singapore - 6pts
4. Oman - 6pts

The next fixtures are:
Singapore against Papua New Guinea at Sydney
Malaysia against Oman at Mount Maunganui

Qualifying Round 1, Group 1, Test 3 - Singapore against Papua New Guinea at North Sydney.
Day 4 - Close of play - Singapore won by 63 runs

This truly was a fantastic exhibition of Test cricket, with an array of twists and turns leading to perhaps the match of the championship so far. The result also meant that both Singapore and Papua New Guinea remained in contention for a place in the next qualifying round with one matchday left. Singapore looked like posting a respectable first innings score when they found themselves 299-8, including a superb knock of 123 from Suryawanshi, but they transformed this into a dominant position with a 9th wicket partnership which lasted for an incredible 162 runs. Papua New Guinea's total of 411 was respectable but left them some way off the pace. And they seemed even less likely to achieve victory when Singapore were were at 204-3 in their second innings. What occurred then was one of the most remarkable collapses seen in a Test match - seven wickets lost for just 15 runs. It meant that Papua New Guinea, having looked like facing an impossible target, would need just 281 runs to win. But it was not to be, as they lost early wickets and no batsman was able to make a significant total.
