The ICC World Test Championship is an international competition run by the International Cricket Council in the sport of cricket for the teams, that have been awarded a Test status and hence, a Full Membership. Afghanistan Cricket Board and Cricket Ireland have been promoted as full members and are eligible to play test cricket. The World Test Championship follows a two-tier system with teams being divided into two divisions. The first division consists of the current top 7 teams in the test rankings namely Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Division two is made up of the remaining five teams- Windies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland. The bottom ranked team of Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2 with the winner of Division 2 getting promoted.​

Currently, Division 1 will be started. Each team will be playing a total of 6 series, one against every team, with 3 home and 3 away series. The number of matches in each series will be decided by the managers. The team which is at the top of the rankings at the end, will be declared as the winner of the World Test Championship.
