It was a shorter ball, I judged it, went up to smash and got off the mark with a single, we were pretty lucky to get away with it. His next ball was a lot slower and James tucked it a few yards off and we took another single. Robert Key came to talk to the bowler and I took the chance to have a glance at Kate. She was still lookin at James, I turned to look at him and he was lookin at me, he gave me THE look and I looked down and got ready for the next ball. Right as I was about to hit the ball, I glanced over at Kate and lost my concentration, the ball looped up in the air but luckily nobody was there to go for a catch, James was pretty pissed. I hit the next ball for a single and James charged at the one after and we took 2.
Be careful Napoleon, I know it's a big day for you, but you gotta concentrate out there
Right
Now get in there and ram in deep!
Okay...
Shaw came in to bowl, I had complete concentration and charged down the ground, only to hit it straight to a fielder, we got away with a single. James blocked the next 2 balls, it was the right thing to do, Shaw was gettin perfect line and length it just wasn't worth the risk, we both knew that it was important to save wickets so we could charge on later. We took singles for the rest of the over and James was left to face, the guy I now figured out to be, Warren.
He finally hit a square drive to point in the 3rd ball and I was left facing. Warren was playing defensive and I wasn't gonna let him continue, I decided to charge on his balls but they never worked out and I was left with just a single off the last ball of his over. We'd only taken 11 runs off the first 3 overs and James knew it was time to get the innings goin.
I tried to lift the first ball although a miss timed effort led it to Mid on and we got away with just another single. As Shaw came in to ball another defensive ball, James tapped it through fine leg where it was mis fielded and ended up being a four, as the crowd stood up to celebrate the first four of the match, I turned over at Kate, she was standing up clapping, looking directly at James and I was beginning to get pissed, why the hell wasn't she looking at me? We ran the next ball for a quick single, I got ready and had complete concentration on the ball. Shaw came in and I judged it as a yorker and decided to charge it before it bounced and slogged it straight down the ground, a few metres away from a 6. I turned to see Kate, who was just sitting down normally, I decided not to worry too much about what she was doin and tried and get on with the match but I couldn't stop thinking. We ran another quick single and the last ball was a dot and i was left to face Warren for the 5th over.
I decided to tuck the first ball towards fine leg and we took a single, Warren was getting aggressive and we could only take advantage. James decided to charge the 2nd ball attempting to hit it past square leg for 4 but it resulted in an edge with went straight to the keeper who made a clean catch. I didn't really know what to think, I was pretty annoyed but at the same time, quite glad coz now, Kate would have to look at me.
Alright Napoleon, let's try and keep em down, a four now and then will do, no need to charge until a few more overs
Yep
And keep your head up
It was clear that he'd figured out I kept lookin at someone in the crowd, I wasn't all that happy about that, but what difference did it make. Michael kept by his game plan and blocked the next few balls getting a single off the last ball of the over, leaving him to face the next.

Ah crap, what the hell did he do, went against his own freakin rule, Michael Lumb! Slogs the 3rd ball for 4 and then attempts the same shot again and BAM! Shaw set him up there, the ball came directly back at him, he was quick to react, but it wasn't too hard a catch in the end. Benham was in now and it didn't seem to good, he wasn't really one of those players that you could really count on, but heck, maybe today was his day? I doubt he'd make the same mistake as Lumb... Kent brought in, probably there best, the mighty Aussie Steven Smith, the guy was a real gun for the team...
Picked up a quick single from Benham and I was in, decided to play my usual style and we picked up another single. Smith came in to bowl a ball that he was hoping would go for a dot, I doubt he cared about gettin a wicket, it went too wide and the umpire signalled a wide. 2 runs off the next ball... and the one after that. Smith was bowling way too defensively, Benham tucked another one away and we picked up another single, I faced the last ball but couldn't get a bat on it, spin wasn't really my speciality and this left Benham to face the next over once again...
Edwards came in for some more defensive bowling and we were beginning to wonder if they were ever gonna attack us and actually try and pick up wickets. Benham decided to stay away from the first ball although he slogged the next for a 4 straight down the ground, it seemed as though we'd found a weaker link in their fielding although Robert Key didn't take much time to fill in the gap. Benham took a single off the next ball and I was left facing the 3rd of the over. I decided to cleverly sweep it but couldn't get full impact and we took a mere 2. The next ball was a lot slower and I was unable to judge the pace and decided to back away and defend the wickets although ended up missing the ball. I expected another slower ball and that's exactly what Edwards did and I slogged it towards Long - off and we ended up taking another 2. With only 46 off the first 8, we were off to a seriously slow start with 2 wickets down.
Let's try and pick it up now
Yeah, i'll see what I can do
The guy at Long on seems crap, try and get it to go through him
Whatever you say boss!
I'm younger than you
Then stfu and lemme play my game
Sorry Benny
You can't call me that
Why?
He walked off and I was left confused once again. I looked over to ee what Kate was upto and she wasn't in her flippin seat, must've gone to the ladies room or the canteen or somethin.
RUN!!!
Wah?!? NO!
He turned back in the nick of time and we were lucky that the fielder missed the stumps, a direct him woulda done it and Benham was pissed off at me. Once again, i'd lost concentration, I was kickin myself, slapped my face a couple of time and got back into game, it was my fault, there was a run there... meh. He hit the next ball to Square leg, w ran for a quick single and I noticed the misfield and turned around, Benham saw me chargin at him and ran like the light, we were unbelievably lucky to get away with that one although this time, it wasn't ENTIRELY my fault although I shoulda called out a "RUN". The next ball was slighly faster from Smith and the keeper couldn't figure it out and missed the ball although they were lucky to have a Long Stop and we only picked up a single. I was up now, pretty pumped to be facing Steven Smith, I had a little smirk on my face and I knew he wanted me out, I lofted the ball just past Mid Wicket, smiling as i struck the ball and we took a quick 2. The next ball was slowed down quite a bit, I was unable to judge and didn't get it on my bat. The last ball of the over came and Smith slighly increased the speed of the ball, once again, i was unable to judge and let the ball go through me. I took the moment to have another look at Kate and she still wasn't back, I figured the canteen line was either too long or she was gone to take a dump...
Edwards was back and started the over with a speedy yorker, Benham nudged it towards fine leg and we got away with a single. I was at the strikers end, ready to attack although his next ball was also a yorker and I decided to angle it towards mid wicket, we piked up another quick single. i figured that Edwards was tryin to set us up, the next ball was also a yorker and Benha, predictably, made the exact same shot he'd made previously. I had no idea whether Edwards was gonna crack now or later but the ball swung towards the off side and was too wide, he'd probably wanted me to edge that one, but i'm smarter than that. The next ball was full and my little touch, allowed us to take a quick single. The next 2 balls were struck well why Benham and we took 2 in each, the first 10 overs quickly came to an end.
