Nathan Hauritz role in the Australian test side. Should he really be playing?

Unfortunately Harris is 30, and Siddle is just 25. I'm a big Siddle fan (of course), reckon it would be a shame if he didn't play for Australia within the next year.

Harris still got a few good years left in him. Siddle's possible return to the top side could be a question of how serious his stress fractures are and how they heal. Dennis Lillee was one who successfully made a return from them, but he had to remodel his whole action. And he was one of the lucky ones.

If Siddle can't bowl at 150km/h like we know he can then he'll struggle to reach the expectations that we have. He was ineffective bowling around 140km/h and was easy meat for the batters.

I used to think Hauritz was terrible and going with all pace would be the way to go. But you have to respect the guy, his figures are great and a lot of them were compiled in unfavorable conditions. He will always be the guy where the selectors will be on the lookout for something better, but it seems they've finally realized there aren't any upgrades in Australia at this point.

Well he's doing his job, thats all I'm going to say. I very much doubt Ricky Ponting and the Australian set-up expect him to run through teams like Shane Warne did.

Hauritz is a steady bowler. It's up to the seamers to take the bulk of the wickets for Australia.

Unless, Smith can be more penerative, Hauritz deserves to keep his place.

Australia must focus a lot on Smith. He has got all the talent in the world. Nothing can beat an aggressive leg spinner in test cricket.

Smith is a great talent, but the Aussie selectors need to not rush him. He's nowhere near ready yet, and it may be a couple of seasons in Shield cricket (and maybe County cricket) until he's ready to make the step up.

Yeap I totally agree and till then they will have to make do with Hauritz.

I reckon they should get him in through his batting so it takes the pressure off his bowling until hes ready. Playing him more in the shorter formats would help.

But concentrating too much on his batting may make him focus less on bowling. We all know what happened to Irfan pathan's bowling when he was made to concentrate on his batting. He should be given more chances in shorter formats though as a specialist bowler who can also bat.

Lmao, he quoted something before it happened :laugh

Like Syl said, playing Smith in ODI's and T20I's first would be ideal, just to ease him into the international set-up as he improves his bowling.
