NZPL Season Nine Legend Week

To mark the beginning of New Zealand Premier League Season Nine, NZPL CEO Callum Gray organized a legend week involving the three legend teams that will be taking part in friendly matches throughout season nine.

It featured a signing session and open training sessions, followed by three 40 over round robin matches and a 40 over final, played at New Zealand's premier sporting stadium Eden Park.

The schedule was as follows:

Monday - Signing Session
Tuesday - Open Training Sessions
Wednesday - New Zealand Legend XI vs Australian Legend XI
Thursday - Australian Legend XI vs World Legend XI
Friday - New Zealand Legend XI vs World Legend XI
Saturday - Rest Day
Sunday - Final

Signing Session - Monday

The signing session provided a chance for youngsters to meet their cricketing hero's. All 33 legend players were on hand to give their autographs, as well as tips.

Open Training Sessions - Tuesday

Tuesday saw the three teams take to the nets, allowing fans to view them close up in action, as well as putting the final touches on the teams short preparations.

Round Robin - Wednesday

The Australian XI showed no signs of age, as they smashed the New Zealand XI by seven wickets.
Glenn McGrath continued to lead the Australian bowling attack with three wickets, before the Deccan Chargers coach Darren Lehmann and Damien Martyn put on 125 for the third wicket all but sealing the Kiwis fate.

Final - Sunday

After three matches in four days the final was bound to be a lower scoring affair.
After being sent in the World XI managed to post what seemed to be an under par 184. Inzamam-ul-Haq and Marvan Atapattu lead the way with the bat, taking the two part-timers in Andrew Symonds and Darren Lehmann apart.
