New Zealand tour of India (Sept-Oct 2016)

Is it just me or does anyone else feel Kohli is too much captaincy and less batting in tests? I didn't understand the 'Pujara SR' rubbish at all. All good teams need stable, solid batters. Everyone cannot be 'aggressive' and bat in tests like the T20/ODI/Test specialists. India are looking for something non existent in Dhawan. All this aggressive, aggressive rubbish is really something. India have been lucky with Vijay and Rahane in the last 2-3 years. They're not aggressive but PROPER test batters. In my opinion, this carrying on the shoulder of Dhawan and Sharma is getting a bit ridiculous! You need to BACK test cricketers like Pujara! I also feel Rohit Sharma is on his last leaf and we should give him this proper chance considering the umpteen given to Dhawan who really really needs to go!

Very good to see Bhuvi back!

NO! Pujara does it again, gone for 87. :facepalm.

Good to see Rahane contributing and Pujara performing consistently. I still feel they both could have got to the triple figure but it wasn't to be. I am just hoping Jadeja and Saha can add some runs tomorrow morning to push the total around 300.

Sidharth Monga: How New Zealand set up Virat Kohli at Eden Gardens | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

I have said this before that even though Virat has temperament to do well in test cricket, he just tries to be very aggressive in his batting. He knows that the bowlers have a clear plan against him to bowl wide outside the off stump, he still tries to reach out for the ball rather than make the bowlers ball to him. I know he wants to play aggressive brand of cricket where he wants to lead from front by playing aggressive cricket but he needs to realize that sometime he needs to show some respect to the bowlers and not go after every single ball.

This looks very bad on Kohli, with all this focus on Pujara's strike rate and Kohli himself getting out for low scores in an attempt to force the rate of scoring

Another such failure and people will start saying that maybe he should learn something from Pujara about absorbing the pressure and then going on the attack instead of turning on aggression from ball 1

Good day for New Zealand. A good pitch, but India probably were not ready for it (tells from the fact that they dropped a speedster for a military medium bowler, in search of swing). Kohli obviously has to look bad now after that "strike rate of Pujara" talk. All that aggression is fine, but you are playing test cricket and you need different types of players too. For once, India have a very good blend (aggressive Dhawan, on the fence Vijay, anchor Pujara, flashy Kohli, anchor Rahane, flashy Sharma). Pujara again proved himself this game though a century would have been wonderful. Rahane again the pillar of our test team. Not going to talk about the blue eyed boy, he is always safe.

NZ are ahead here. I expect the pitch to be good for batting on Days 2 and 3, which means that NZ can put India under serious pressure if they quickly wrap India up tomorrow (they need to get past Saha and Jadeja and Bhuvi can hold a bat too).

Wow. Super bowling from NZ. Testing the Indian batsmen. India have to make sure to get NZ out for at least 230ish or below to be in this match. *Sigh* It seems quite an uphill task though.... We needed Umesh in these conditions. It seems to assist the NZ seamers and probably would've assistes Umesh. He can swing the ball and add that extra bit if pace.

Sigh, we have our two best seamers.

Our line-up has 11 people who have a test fifty at least!

Edit: I jinxed Shami :(

Umesh will be definitely missed here .. no idea why he was dropped for Bhuvi, no offence to Bhuvi here

Gritty knock by Saha !! Very well played. Has given us a fighting total in the end

When did Bhuvi start bowling in the 135+kph zone ... thats 5-10kph faster than he used to be at one point

A very good start for India. Coming to the batting a team to be number 1 cannot always depend on Ashwin and Jadeja. Saha played well and he keeps on impressing me with every game as he passes.

And Taylor departs, our spinners havent even been a threat and Kumar already has his third wicket. Taylor's form should be a big worry for NZ as he has been in a lean patch since a lot of time except Zimbabwe series

Meanwhile :nz: Players: "We were prepared for Ashwin & Jadeja but Bhuvneshwar Kumar came out of syllabus". ;)
