Adrian Peterson is still the No.2 running back in the NFL, but he's going to have to work damn hard on holding onto the ball over the off-season. There are running backs like Cedric Benson and Maurice-Jones Drew who are right on his tail and if he fumbles as often as he did this season he's going to find that teams will target the ball every play he runs. And they won't have a quarter back who will bail them out forever.
Here's some stats for you:
Cedric Benson: 13 games, 301 attempts, 1,251 yards, 6 TDs, 1 fumble (0 lost)
Mauric-Jones Drew: 16 games, 312 attempts, 1,391 yards, 15 TDs, 2 fumbles (1 lost)
Chris Johnson: 16 games, 358 attempts, 2,006 yards, 14 TDs, 3 fumbles (3 lost)
Compare those to Peterson:
Adrian Peterson: 16 games, 314 attempts, 1,383 yards, 18 TDs, 7 fumbles (6 lost).
And that doesn't include post-season. He fumbled 9 times the season before as well. If he can learn to hold onto the ball he could well be the best ahead of Chris Johnson, but it's going to take a lot of work.
