I would not presume to know what reason Michel de Nostredame wrote his prophecies for nor why he felt them so important as to continue writing up to the moment of his death.
What I can say without doubt, is that without detailed knowledge of 15th century France and its geography, without any understanding of the sort of occult texts Nostradamus read, without a solid grasp of Old French, Provencal, Latin, Italian and Greek or indeed, without a clean, untranslated copy of the Prophecies before you, there is little hope of you understanding the meaning.
It may be easy to retroactively apply prophecy to an event, but it's even easier to "accidentally" edit and mash it to suit your own agenda.
After all, that's how the Nazis did it.
