Andrew Symonds after scoring 91* against Srilanka in the semi final of 2007 ICC World Cup

Andrew Symonds

Game Changer! Steam Roller! Mr.Savior! Andrew Roy Symonds was one of the greatest player of World Cup history. Just look at his batting average! Symonds was a complete all-round package for Australia in the World Cup. He was one of the go to man for Ricky Ponting. Symonds scored 143* against Pakistan in his first game in the ICC World Cup 2003. With Darren Lehmann out suspended and Michael Bevan injured, Symonds took Pakistan on. Mr.Savior produced one of the great World Cup innings, scoring an unbeaten 143 from only 125 balls with 18 fours and 2 sixes. In the 2003 World Cup, Symonds also scored a match winnig 91* from 118 balls in the semi final against the experience of Vass- Murali. Roy is my finisher! Symonds will always remember for his mysterious game play as a bowler. In the World Cup (1999-2007), Symonds often played a role of medium pacer and off- spinner to bamboozle batsman strategy and momentum. A genigen partnership breaker, Symonds fearless attitude was venomous for batsman's. Tendo and Roy duo will make life difficult for death bowlers. Game on!

Andrew Symonds's records in the World Cup:

M: 18
Runs: 515 , @ 103.00
SR : 93.29
HS: 143*
50/100 : 3/1

David Boon

Tasmania's best cricketer, famous for distinctive mustache David Boon was not as stylish as other but was always occupied the crease and accumulated runs when it was must need. One of the best openers of the 80s and early 90s Boon played 181 ODIs and scored just below 6,000 runs with 5 centuries.

David Boon participated in 2 World Cups. One being the winning WC for his team, 1987 where he was the second highest run-scorer of the tournament after Graham Gooch. Scoring five 50+ scores his performances were brilliant, to say the least. 87 vs New Zealand, 62 vs India, and 93 vs Zimbabwe. But as I said he scored runs when it was most needed and his 65 runs innings vs Pakistan in the semi-finals followed by 75 runs innings vs England in the Final were one of the best 1987 WC innings, that helped his team lift 1987 WC trophy.

1992 was another WC that Boon played where he was the 4th highest run scorer. He either scored big or got us relatively early. Boon's best performances came in his opening match and his last match where he scored 100 runs in both the occasions.

WC Batting Summary

Matches: 16
Runs: 815
Average: 54.33

Daniel Vettori

A highly underrated spinner in the modern era, Daniel Vettori was arguably the best spinner New Zealand have ever had. The left-arm spinner had certain limitations and was never a prolific wicket-taker but was sensational in the role he played for his team.

He kept one end quiet with his spin bowling and maintained pressure. Scoring against him was tough as he was always accurate and innovative and his ODI economy rate of 4.12 justifies this claim.

For the most part of his career, he played on surfaces that had little help for the spinners and hence Vettori developed other weapons to keep himself in the contention. He was highly intelligent and played international cricket for 18 years.

He was the youngest player to represent New Zealand and he ended with 305 ODI wickets.
