:eng: :ar: Dan Lawrence

551 runs @ 29.00 (best 91) and 3 wickets @ 32.33 in 11 Test matches

Dan Lawrence completes my middle order with his homespun strokemaking and frog-blending off-breaks. As distressing as that description sounds, the 27-year-old is an excellent cricketer who will only continue to thrive while he develops his bowling as part of the Surrey staff. There are also rumours that he may be repaid for his long service as next cab off the rank with a series against Sri Lanka as Zak Crawley's injury replacement. That would be excellent to see.

Now to update the index!

My next pick is Martin Bicknell. Kind of a surprise that he was unpicked up until this point.

Right arm swing bowling all rounder who has more than a 1000 FC Wickets at an average of 25. He only got a chance to play 4 Test matches for England. In that he also took wickets.

With the bat in hand he has more than 6000 Runs with 3 centuries in FC.

One of the most unfortunate cricketers. In an alternate universe he must be a legend for England in International Cricket.

@Supreme General is next with the double pick!

Well with a double pick and a late pick to catch up on, got to make these count.

First up is Geraint Jones, a solid test keeper for England despite having some competition but his icon status will always be cemented with Ashes 2005 and that winning catch at Edgbaston to dismiss Michael Kasprowicz. He comes in the team to allow Alec Stewart to concentrate on batting.

Secondly, Dawid Malan comes into the team at number 3. A player that has got more acclaim in the white ball side of the game for England but has seemed to have more ability in red ball than he has showed. He always looked in control of a situation and never phased or rushed, yes he’s been part of two consecutive abysmal ashes tours down under but in each of those he has looked one of England’s better batters with his only test ton with that partnership with Bairstow in the losing cause at Perth in 2017/17.

Thirdly, an opening partner for Alec Stewart is Keaton Jennings. A great player of spin and amazing short leg. It’s a shame that he hasn’t been able to transfer much of his ability as one of the top county openers to the test arena and it shows to his talent that he still gets call ups or mentions to England squads even into the 2020s due to his county performances.

@Perfect Square back to you

My next pick is Joe Denly.

Played 15 Test matches for England. Didn't exactly set the stage on fire. But he has loads of FC experience now. Over 14000 Runs under his belt. He will do good at no. 3 for my team.

@Till Valhalla next.

:eng: :bat: Sam Robson

336 runs @ 30.54 (1 century, best 127) in 7 matches

An opening batter lost in the large shadow of Andrew Strauss, Sam Robson's Test career lasted just one summer where he honestly did a pretty good job. He made a century in his second Test against Sri Lanka, then a half-century against a decent (but pre-Bumrah) Indian attack. Unfortunately, he couldn't shake the perception that he played with hard hands that made him a slip catching candidate, and he was replaced by a recall for an out of position Jonathan Trott.
