@CerealKiller the Haris reason :laughter:
Wahab Riaz said:
Shadab is a very important member of Pakistan T20 cricket and he's a white-ball specialist. Unfortunately he got injured during the season; he twisted his ankle which will take another two weeks for rehab. He will be available to bowl after that. Haris is rested because there were some first-class performers and we saw Harris' capability and since he's part of our plans going forward, we want to use our pool of players.

Thoughts:

Sahibzada Farhan , Mohammad Haris :
Don't like this much as @CerealKiller said. Farhan hasn't performed in PSL yet and Haris is young and hits sixes
To be fair, Sahibzada has a boundary % of 30.5% this year. Best in the world. So while leaving out Haris is brainded, Sahibzada Farhan has numbers to justify his selection.

Pakistan T20 squad for 2024 series v NZ:

Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Aamir Jamal, Abbas Afridi, Azam Khan (wicket-keeper), Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah (wicket-keeper), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicket-keeper), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Usama Mir and Zaman Khan

There are 5 T20s being played, so its the perfect time to try Ayub, Farhan, Haseebullah in the batting line up. It will also be a good time to see how Abrar does in the shortest format.

A potential XI to try in the first couple of games:

1. Fakhar
2. Ayub
3. Farhan
4. Haseebullah wk
5. Rizwan is probably needed as batter only, gives the guy above a shot at keeping also
6. Ifty
7. Mir
8. Wasim Jr
9. Jamal
10. Rauf
11. Shaheen

No Shadab is mad to be honest but the PCB stating Haris is being rested gave me a chuckle.

So we’re gonna rest a guy who plays one format while picking Babar who plays almost non-stop
I wonder how much it is to do with money, like the central contracts aren't necessarily as good as England, India, Australia - they could all probably make good money even without the IPL. So the likes of Babar, Shaheen, Rizwan get topped up with match fees, hence the reason they are always playing.

Yeah match fees are an important chunk of what they earn, and in an economic environment like Pakistan's, why not maximise your earnings?
