I don't know how Hafeez have been able to stay in this line-up for so long. He is more like an opening batsman who didn't do well consistently at any other place. Yes, in 2014 he was at his prime and did do well in National T20 Cup followed by a very good CLT20 in 2014 for Lahore Lions. Post that he has been poor in this format. Shoaib Malik can still be persisted with but not Hafeez.

1st Test Match kicks off. Well, Pakistan lineup seems bizarre. Its good to see Abdullah Shafiq getting the chance however the middle order seems quite weak and shallow. Are they experimenting with the test line-up to make a combination. We will have to see. This lineup does not look like a balanced and top one to compete against the top teams though. You need a solid batsman like Haris Sohail in the middle if he is in the Squad. Who is Sajid Khan?

Domestic averages don't matter when you fail miserably at the International Stage. The International pressure and Cricket is a different ball game altogether. Hopefully, he performs this time as he was in sublime off in the domestic games off recent.

In my view, Hafiz has been quite consistent in the middle order in T20s. The opening role has long gone. Hafeez was the rightful selection in the T20 World Cup due to his experience and some really good past performances.

Shoaib Malik for sure is in different league altogether. He is Super-Fit and a better performer for sure. Probably once of the best batters around to play Spin at the moment.

Those are T20 International averages. Sohaib Maqsood has an International average of just 12! But also I don't think Maqsood is a bad player. His strokes hace looked impressive and gives a feeling that he is one of those power hitters that Pakistan are looking from a long long time. So as Iftikhar Ahmed & Haider Ali.

These two have batted well to bring Bangladesh back from 49/4. The pitch looks pretty flat. In the last Test here WI chased a massive total. So even if Bangladesh get to 400, Pakistan can definitely win by racking up a huge score.

Now Fawad and Babar are there. Mostly onus will be on Babar if the openers collapsed. We will see how it goes. Haris Sohail is constantly unfit, he can't play Tests. He hasn't shown any performance since being dropped due to poor form.

As @Na Maloom Afraad has pointed out, Saud Shakeel has definitely earned a place in the Test squad. Azhar could open, and he could slot in at 3. Kill two birds with one stone.

Agreed but there are lot others who can be tried out. This is certainly not the best Test 11 squad by Pakistan, that is my point You can see the beatings done by Bangladesh today. 283/4 Faheem Asharf is not an international material atleast as far as his bowling is concerned, I have been saying this since he came into the squad. Who is Sajid Khan? Pakistan is seriously missing specialist spinner and a good all-rounder even in the bowling department. Anyhow, this will be a test case for the team.

Faheem Asharf is not an international material atleast as far as his bowling is concerned, I have been saying this since he came into the squad.

He needs a little improvement in bowling, yes, but I wouldn't pick anyone else over him in Tests right now. He averages 34 with the bat, and 34 with the ball, with an economy under 3. That is good enough for a fifth bowler.
