Pakistan vs New zealand : 2 Test & 3 ODI: Dec 26, 2022 - Jan 13, 2023 at Karachi

Good to see the left arm seamer Mir being given a debut although on a lifeless pitch. Out of interest, is Hasan Ali injured as well? Did he have phenomenal numbers in Tests when he played last?

Has been completed out of form since 2021 - mostly in ODI and T20 but that has leaked in to Test cricket! Averaged 40+ with the ball in Tests this year.

5. Abdullah Shafique?? What happened overnight on the same pitches?? Worrying signs for an opener who hasn't even played a proper test internationally yet.
He’s just starting out, there will be ebbs and flows, you gotta back him like Babar was backed, he has all the talent in the world.

I’d rather see Mir Hamza get a proper run to be honest… Pakistan desperately lack that type of seamer who is a ‘steady Eddie’ that you can rely on for just getting through spells with control over the economy. For varying reasons such players have seldom been a long-term fixture in this team for a couple of decades. Hamza is a bit on the older side admittedly to mould into a proper workhorse bowler at international level so the sooner they find a younger version of him the better.

How big is Pakistan's squad at this point? They seem to add 2 or 3 new players every couple of days.

Indecision and the need of change is causing some weird off the cuff decisions. I feel like it might be case of flinging as much against the wall and seeing what sticks.

Ngl, might be worth a shot. I've always felt that we were a weak ODI and Test side - not representative of the talent that we have rather a case of poor management.

Mohammad Amir has been seen training in the National Stadium Lahore quite a bit over the last few days - looks like he believes he is going to get a go at international side again. Annoyingly, he hasn't played any domestic cricket either.

Thankfully, Afridi will leave his selection role at the end of this tour.

Finally my rants about gifting wickets to inexperienced bowlers have been noticed by someone

Always reminds me of a student who does the bare minimum (something I can sympathise with) and revises what he knows are the hardest topics (Southee, Wagner etc.) and hoping that they can get through the rest with over confidence - only to get found out by a debutant (often one who isn't even that good)

Colin De Grandhomme, Marcus North, Davendra Bishoo - the list is quite literally endless

Good Luck Babar, is he continues pile up runs in 2023 too? We will know today later on.

Not NZ Nor Pakistan have no chance for WTC Final so this test not much important for them.

Playing XI): Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood, Babar Azam(c), Saud Shakeel, Sarfaraz Ahmed(w), Agha Salman, Hasan Ali, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, Abrar Ahmed

New Zealand (Playing XI): Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Michael Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee(c), Matt Henry, Ajaz Patel

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to bat

After 4 losses from ENG, either of them want a winning start of 2023. So it is important for them
Next 11 mos only 2 more test for them anyway if they loose this one or Draw.i can not see Pakistan win this test.

NZ have chance to post 600 in 3rd successive test
659/6 Declared in 2021 vs pak
612/9 Declared in 2022 vs pak
Now 2023

NZ 's Conway/ Latham in this series already 359 runs reminds me Bill Lawry & Keith Stakpole pile up for Aus vs Ind in india

looks like Moisture at karachi track but after Lunch Williamson & others will enjoy hitting all around.

Nz 119/0*

Conway/Latham 183
Conway/Latham 57*
Conway/Latham 119*

Latham was given off Mir Hamza
I think too high, inside Edge

By playing on these pitches, Pakistan are neither doing justice to themselves nor to NZ.

Hasan Ali unlucky though Couple of half chances put down by Salman & Shakeel

187/1 not yet 50 overs.

Abrar licking runs >> yet another 200+ by tomorrow.
