PC Games

Both the Mafia games are well worth checking out. The first is the better game for me, but they're both good. One of the things I don't like about the second game is they use the Halo/CoD health regeneration system - i.e. take a tommy gun burst, it doesn't matter as if you get behind a wall for a while, you'll be fine. The first used medikits and while neither system is realistic, the first at least provides a certain amount of tension - if you're low on health, you know you need to really take it easy.

We've got the Xbox to thank for that - specifically Halo. ;) Give me medikits any day.

See, I think it's one of the ways that MP has ruined SP in some games. Respawning health makes sense with MP - but it just dilutes any tension that might build up with SP. It'd be good if they could give us an option, but I'm not sure if that would be possible.

The same sort of thing is happening in TW I'm afraid - where do you think Shogun 2's lightning fast battles came from? No one on the forums was complaining battles were too long. And the fact that archers don't have a range bonus when elevated - I've heard several MP guys say that it made it too easy for armies to just sit on a hill, so CA nerfed it. Guess what guys? Armies sit on hills all the bloody time - even now. It's up to you as the attacker to find a way to get them down - or get to the damn hill first!

None of that can be present in Rome 2 and we're campaigning vigorously at TW Centre to see that it isn't!

There are many ways MP has ruined SP. Certainly one of the many.

I just got Civ IV in the sale. I chose it over Civ V based on a couple of obscure things that came up in the few reviews I checked out.

I recommend it, although I don't know how much longevity it will have for me. My current game (my first in Beyond the Sword) has 72 elapsed hours and is only up to the 1930s (ie. more than 100 turns to go unless someone wins before that). Although I might've gone away and left it on some of that time...

For those that don't know it at all, it's a turn-based, grand-strategic empire-builder.

For those that do know it, I'm in 1936 as Japan (random leaders). Single-player, low (chieftain I think) level difficulty, the six AI empires were:
Pericles of Sumeria
Mao Zedong of Portugal(!)
Queen Victoria of Spain
Zara Yaqob of Native America
Boudicca of America; and
Montezuma of the Holy Roman Empire(lol)
(Couple of amusing ones there)

'America' is between me and Pericles, Native America and Montezuma, so I just have to worry about it, Mao, and Victoria. I hadn't had a proper war until 1878. Native America is my vassal state. There is only one continent on the planet.

Neither it nor America was spending much on defence. So when Victoria of Spain moved in on America, she looked like cleaning up. I felt I had to intervene to avoid being surrounded. Over 27 years I reduced Spain to 3 cities, then made peace (1905). I then had five Spanish cities, and two American ones - one came over to me peacefully, and one I got from Spain.

The two American ones went back to America, one of the Spanish ones asked to go back to Spain, and another went into Spanish revolt. So in 1924 I moved in on the rest of Spain. When it was down to its last city, my vassal finally joined in and took it.

Spanish revolts don't happen anymore! (It's a bit of a bug that, as soon as Spain ceased to be, so did Spanish cultural identity, and thus Spanish revolts etc. Not that I'm complaining...oh wait, yes I am!)

I have nearly triple the victory points of my nearest rival. My military could probably take Mao, Boudicca and Native America combined right now (I currently have the only tanks, planes, destroyer and carrier). But I'm too much of a pacifist, or lack sufficient provocation, so the troops are all sitting around twiddling their thumbs and eating my gold.

Xcom EU has multiplayer now. Let's hope it doesn't find a way to ruin that as well.

At least in Deus Ex Human Revolution, there's an excuse: it's an augmentation. Great game that, by the way. :)

Civ IV is a great game, problem was I used to always get annoyed by the other civs easily and abandon my aims of a cultural victory and start smashing some skulls

Yeah well cultural victory is looking the hardest of the lot, whereas on this easy setting, it's almost harder not to stomp on and obliterate the neighbours one by one...:rolleyes

I was going for the points win tbh, but a lot can happen in 100 years...(and still happen too slowly lol). Maybe time to start the space race!

Godfather - PC Game

:clap

The story line is fantastic, audio/video clippings just add to the realism of the game. If you're a big fan of the movie, give the game a try. Even if you haven't watched the movie or aren't a fan of the movie, you'd still like the game if you like games like GTA.
I still play the game several times on my PS2.Loved everything about it.The start scene of the game was epic.I & my brother still likes the game.Bought the game 4-5 years ago.The Godfather was my first favourite game.It rocks :clap

I used to love civ III when i was younger. pick india ran by ghandi and they would never build much military, stomp them down to their last city. demand 999999999 gold per turn for peace, you'd get it, cancel after one turn and have effectively infinite money.

Although people would barely trust you again, you didn't need diplomacy if you could run at - 300 gold per turn

For PC Games Fanatic, Here is the all in one question since the start of this year. Whats you Best PC Game played for 2012? Though the year is still young but you can give a recap for the past 4 month till now.

Been reading up some PC games lists lately, and there are a plethora of games with brilliant concepts that would want to try out. Deus Ex, Civilisation IV, Portal I and II, Minecraft, Braid, Anchorhead are only some of them I remember the names of.

Since it now exists on PC as well, the answer is exactly the same as the best console game this year... Dark Souls.

I've tried to play Deus Ex a few times over the years, and saw nothing special about it whatsoever. Can't understand how it's constantly ranked in the best games of all time, and more often than not, at #1.

Civilisation is definitely one of the best of all time though. Took me awhile to learn it properly when I first played, so I'd recommend starting small with just a couple of rival nations, or read some guides, but that's not much fun.

I played GTA IV a bit lately. It's alright, but feels like a copy of Scarface. San Andreas felt like it had more freedom too, found myself just doing missions all the way through in IV. Might be able to go back to Skyrim now that random violence and drug dealing is out of my system.
