Asus M2N Socket AMD AM2 Motherboard

Is this any good? I've found it for approx £60. I'd rather stick with AMD Athlon, as I've heard in many places that they are the best for gaming. Since the GPU might be pricey, I'd rather spend less than £100 on the Mobo. I want to go dual core, so I need a new Mobo, but I need to know if we'll really need dual core processors for games any time soon.

AMD Athlon64 Dual Core 5000+ Socket AM2 Processor Retail £70.75 (ex. Vat) Is this a good processor?
Also, if I upgrade processor/GPU, do I really need to go to 2gb RAM?

You say the 8800 would be best to go for. Could you clear something up for me? What's the best version of a card to go for, is it GT or GS or some other suffix? Does the suffix make that much difference, or will any 8800 see me right for a while yet? How about the other two you mentioned? Will they likely be out of date in a year's time?

Sorry about the interrogation, but I really want to get good bang for my bucks this time, I've made some poor decisions in the past. I appreciate your help and everyone else who's replied. :)

Nice machine and if it's the same as the one I googled then its decent specs for a laptop and will run Vista and Areo well.

Yeh it is a nice machine, and have had no problems with it yet, or with vista it always seems to run smoothly. I would recommend it to anyone, who is on the look out for a new laptop.

No It was for duded 64

In which case Will(duded64) made a sensible decision. As I have stated before, high-end DX9 cards such as X1950 or GeForce 7900/7950 will devastate the mid-range DX10 cards when used for DX9 games-and mind you there are not many DX10 games in the market.

Cheers Naveed :) and thanks for calling me will i dont get that too often on here :). Should be here today or tomorrow and ill try to take some shots.

Finally ordered it! love me gas!

Good move?

Great move, as has been said by cnbd. How much did you pay for it, as my last post was a while ago. Its still an excellent card for the price, still my best bang for buck card out there, although the slightly more expensive 1950xt is also a good deal.

Just to clarify what someone said earlier, i dont have the 2900xt, or any Nvidia offering. I see little point in buying a dx10 card yet when even a $700 ultra cant handle dx10 games properly. I will miss this round of cards and wait for the next refresh.

EDIT: I noticed the price was in the link, my bad. :)

PSU make model wattage etc.

Are you planning to upgrade that cpu? We have one of those in our downstairs pc, many games are cpu limited with that cpu simply because it sucks arse. To see the true performance of that x1950 you will definatly need a better cpu.

i think its a 300w PSU by Antec thats all know so far. Probably get a new one soon unless it can handle it well.
