[PCCL 2010] Call for Commentary

Awful awful English. It's than.

{bowler} has absolutely annihilated {striker}'s defences there, his stumps have been well and truly displaced.

and

{striker} has given that some humpty, it's back, back, back... SEEYA! 6 runs.

It's plain to see that {striker} is going for the jugular now: leg stump guard, eyeing up cow corner.... Don't need to field that one, though, he's been clean bowled.

Fours;
Absolutely beautiful shot from [striker}, classical cover drive for four.

Gorgeous shot! That was just a gentle push from {striker}, has raced away to the fence for four!

EDGED and through the slips! {bowler} stands bemused, but its for more runs for the {battingTeam}.

That's clipped away nicely, good shot for four.

Sixes;

WHOOMP! It's hardhat time in the crowd as {striker} smashes that one into the stands for a massive six!

He's gone for the switch hit and...SIX! {bowler} left scratching his head!

SIXER! {striker} clears his front leg and the ball goes sailing over long on for a huge six.

DLF MAXIMUM from {striker}! Just kidding, that phrase sucks. But its still a six!

Twenty20 stuff here from {striker}! Six more runs for the {battingTeam}

Wickets bowled;

What a delivery! Banana Swing from {bowler}, curved inward and takes middle stump for a walk! {striker} had no clue!

Gone! Absolutely horrid stuff from {striker}, backing away and letting go of a dead straight delivery. {bowler} has a wry smile on his face as {bowlingTeam} get the breakthrough.

He's played on, thats out! {striker} goes for an expansive shot through the covers but an inside edge gets {bowler} the wicket!

Bowled 'em! Was that Muralitharan or {bowler}? Absolutely magical delivery!

Just a suggestion, maybe we should have separate macros for fast bowlers and spinners...

I do have separate commentary for fast bowlers and spinners. It's just that when I had this format up on the first thread, no one submitted commentary because it was too complicated. :p

So if you have something specifically for a specific type of player or aggression level, make a note of it.

Dots

{bowler} pushes one across {striker} towards the slips. {striker} lets it go.

{bowler} strays onto the legside but {striker} hits it straight to {fielder} fielding at mid on.

{bowler} throws down a short one that {striker} only just gets out the way of.

{striker} has swish at a wide ball outside the offstump to no avail as he hits nothing but fresh air and it goes through to {bowlingTeam:WicketKeeper}.

Fine line and length from {bowler} but {striker} stoutly defends its.

A thundering yorker from {bowler} nearly beats the defense of {striker} but he just managed to get his bat on it before his castle was toppled.

Dot ball. {striker} seemed disinterested in scoring from that as he lets it go through to the keeper.

{striker} blocks an inswinging length ball from {bowler}. That's the type of shot that Boycott would have been proud of.

Ones

{bowler} strays onto the legside and {striker} tucks it down to square leg for the single.

The ball's banged in but {striker} is up to the challenge as he guides it down to third man.

{bowler} delivers what can only be described as a long hop but {striker} can only get it away for a single. {nonstriker} has a chat with his teammate he feels that should have gone to the boundary.

Unorthodox but effective. {striker} scoops it down to fine leg off the bowling of {bowler} for a leisurely one. (Spinner)

{striker} charges down the wicket like a bull in Pamplona but is only able to drill it straight to {fielder} at mid off for a single.

Awful delivery from {bowler} as it barely pitches on the cut stuff but {striker} is content to knock the sweeper in the deep.

That's an absolute ripper from {bowler} pitches on leg swings to off but {striker} shows his class to not only keep it out but get a single off it as he pushes to the outfield.

{striker} gets lucky there as he Chinese cuts it down to {fielder} at fine leg for one.

Twos

He'll get two there. {striker} leant back on it and intricately weaved it past the infield.

{bowler} gets it to nip back but {striker} whips it into the legside for a two.

He's barely put any power into that but its goes past the batsman at a fair few knots. Only a two on offer though as it bogs down badly in the field like Lisa Riley into a foam mattress.

Bouncer from {bowler} that gets up to head height. {striker} flicks it off his nose to the man in the deep for a quick double.

Ordinary ball, ordinary shot and two coming from it.

{striker} nearly takes off the head of the {nonstriker} as he hits straight in the air for a couple of runs.

Wickets-bowled

(VD Batsman) Castled! {bowler} throws down a pearler which breaks through the normally staunch defense of {striker}.

Bad cricket all round! A terribly early release from {bowler}, which hits the very top of middle and off without bouncing after {striker} fails to connect to it with a pre-meditated scoop shot.

(A or VA Batsman) {striker} charges down the pitch and is bowled by a yorker. He ends up closer to {nonstriker} than the stumps by the time they are hit, and carries on walking back to the pavilion.

a) close calls
And I don't think anyone in this stadium can believe that has missed both the edge and the stumps. Great ball from {bowler}
In comes {bowler} and, would you believe it, the ball has darted past the outside edge again.
{striker} can't be feeling too comfortable out there, this is quite a spell so far... And he's escaped once more, {striker} clearly ate his Lucky Charms for breakfast this morning.
{bowler} is probably ready to give up, as another ball screams past the outside edge.
{bowlingside}'s groans tell the whole story, it's still only a dot ball.
{nonstriker} is coming down the track to talk to {striker}, and with good reason, too, that one has just beaten him all ends up.
b) standard dot balls
{striker} is a lucky boy after that one; the ball fizzed past his eyes, great bouncer.
{striker} is being very obsinate here, that's another defensive shot.
{striker} shoulders arms there.
The {battingteam}'s innings is slowing somewhat, that's a dot ball.
Once more, that's a dot.
The staunch defence of {striker} has some of the press up here mumuring their approval. Me? I want him to give it a ride!
I don't think I've seen anything this dull, and I've sat through more than my fair share of chick flicks.
2. Ones
{striker} & {nonstriker} scamper a single, good running.
{fielder}'s throw to {bowlingteam:keeper} isn't in time, and the run is completed with moderate ease.
That throw has {nonstriker} stretched out to make his ground, great effort there.
For some reason, they didn't take a 2 there.
One to the ring, they'll take that every day of the week.
Confusion between the batsmen there, but {striker} makes his ground in the end.
3. Twos
A quickly run first has made two possible, great running.
"Run 'em up!" is the cry as the ball dribbles away, {fielder} had to move about 15 yards to his left to field that one.
Two runs taken to long on, that was a good descision to take on {fielder}'s arm.
That ball is hit high, very high. It lands 10 yards inside the boundary, and doesn't roll, 2 taken.

Do some more in a bit.

Six

Holy cow! {striker} has just smashed that over the boundary for another half a dozen!

Dots;

He's let that go, {striker} has more leaves than a tree.

Three;

That's good running from {striker} and {nonstriker}, really pushing hard and putting pressure on the fielder. 3 runs more for {batting team}.

Dots -

Some marvellous bowling from {bowler}, {battingTeam} seem very frustrated at the bench

Wickets - Bowled:

And he's done it! Clean bowled! {striker} went for the big one and he's paid the price, middle stump!

Dots:

Good line and length from {bowler}, {striker} pushed at it and was lucky to avoid the edge.
{bowler} drags it short and outside off, {striker} will be very disappointed he missed out on that one!
A good yorker and some good technique shown from {striker} in the forward defence.
That one reared up a bit, {striker} does well to avoid it and it goes through to the keeper.
Shoulders arms from {striker}, he had to show respect to that delivery.
Worked off the pads but {fielder} did brilliantly at short leg to prevent the single.
Good length and straight, pushed off the back foot straight to the bowler who fields well.
{striker} pushes it into the off-side and looks for a quick single but {nonstriker} sends him back, don't think there was a run there either.
{striker} cops a blow on the elbow, completely mistimed that pull shot.
{striker} weaves out of the way of that one, that certainly reared up off the pitch!

these ones are direct from the videos that i got

4's

  • {fielder} only had 4 or 5 metres to move,he moved one before it hit the fence.
  • {striker}, hits that well;{fielder}, can't get there..4!!
  • More runs, another boundary.
  • When your up against this guy, he just effortlessly says "Thanks {bowler},I'm going through the line for this one" and almost got this for six.One bounce for 4 more!!.
  • Taken on the full and four!!.He knew exactly where the fielders were
  • Four!!!.{striker}, once again, makes it look so simple.
  • Thats four.No safer area than over the bowler's head.
  • And guess what?{striker} starts with a boundary for a new bowler.
  • Here's another one.{striker} is deling in boundaries today.
  • Oh! that's beautiful.No fault of {bowler},that was just a quality shot for four.
  • Straight and hard,4 more.{striker} almost got the umpire there.That was an 'Umpire killer'.

6's

  • goes....and goes.....and goes....first call from the centre was catch-it!!!...They didn't quickly add to that,the bloke in the 23rd row.
  • That sounded superb and is superb!!!....ho..ho..ho!!!
  • Don't bother setting a field for that shot,because you actually can't.Magnificient 6!!.
  • Oh that's Massivvee!!!...that's the biggest hit of the day.What a shot by {striker}.
