What had been the best of IPL 2014?

Dhoni's gambles have stopped working, and yet he continues with them. Who asked him to go with an all Indian bowling attack, esp. against Kings XI who have one of the best batting lineups this IPL?
If I were the captain, still I wouldn't have selected Ben Hilfenhaus in my playing XI.
In fact as I did mention earlier, CSK has the weakest pace attack. Even Rajasthan royals have better attack.

----------

Suddenly he decides to move McCullum down and throw Faf up. He always wants to reserve the big hitters for the end (or late).
I heard the commentators giving a reason for that:-
Faf is weak against spin in comparison to Baz

He might have accounted for Sehwag at the beginning, if Hilfy played. Hilfy is not the best overseas option, but we never had a great overseas bowler after Bollinger. Even Bollinger faded away. CSK has been mostly about its spinners, and this season both of them were mediocre to poor.

After 4 consecutive finals, this is the first time CSK hasn't qualified. Feels wierd!

Raina's stance and the way he looks while batting resembles him to Sachin Tendulkar (although not the technique)..
Did anyone notice this ?

MS Dhoni: "I think definitely it was something we could have achieved, the reason being suresh the way he batted, I think in the middle overs there was some very irresponsible cricket by some of the most experienced international cricketers, so I think definitely we need to have a look.
"One of the facts is one of our retained players, we lost at the start itself, but we still made the playoffs, we did really well in the tournament. I had belief in my bowling that they will let them score more than 200 runs (smiles). Happy for Priety though." Well, not often you hear such strong words from Dhoni, usually quite composed.
He does have points.A lot of bad balls were bowled today no credit taken from fantastic viru, but the bowling was a huge letdown.

Onething about viru's innings was his timing seems to be back in all glory if not improved, hope he continues and hope his son keeps taunting him daily.:p

NO it doesnt, sachin's stance is more balanced you cant tell if he will go on front or back, raina is almost leaning forward

Coming to Ms team picks today even i would have done the same. I think he underestimated Viru and prepared plan for the KXI oversea batsmen's who struggle for spin. If they made a mistake today its only in their batting order they did. Should have let Baz open and bring faf down.. And to let people know Faf is a good player of spin.. He has very little problem playing them.... And for all KXI fans i personally feel all the joy is only limited to this season and not far beyond with this team.....

Expected a Rajani style match, but all seemed as sinked in well after that very slow McCullum's running which made Raina out. 87(25) is greatest TT inning ever I seen..... You deserved all the awards of the game mahn! #Raina

Dhoni done like a shite tonight. In his opinion the great International performers played irresponsible but he was an irresponsible guy itself with his captaincy and batting order decisions. Dhoni should come middled order and not down the order, we've heard that from many professional Cricket analyzers. He does well when comes lately in the first innings. He has to survive his team from critical conditions if he targets glory in a match as tonight(when chasing, same time around when playing with tail and needs a bollywood style ending) but he fails every time with the non helpful tail. If he had came after Raina's fall then CSK might have large chances. Remember the World Cup final, all what we loved Dhoni for. Not that same Dhoni appeared tonight and also it makes me remind of last year IPL final.

^ it was the trust factor mate last match David Hussey scored a quick 50 and was in form so that was it but ya even i agree why so late and Tbf Jaddu as a Pinch hitter is just stupid i really dont feel confident when comes out to bat...

Dhoni has lot of problems himself, and yet he chooses to be sarcastic about his bowlers and that too being the captain, is what my problem is. When Raina bats like that, Dhoni should come into play as soon as possible and try to push things harder to win it for the team. But again, he pushes himself down to keep himself for the final overs and it ends up late (if totals are as big as this).

CSK need a refreshing of their spinners, esp. their Indian spinners. I would keep Ashwin, but I would rethink about Jadeja. He has not clicked this tournament barring a game or two. Maybe even Ashwin who has been very listless in the last two IPL's for Chennai. And stop spending too much on the batsmen. Focus onthe bowlers. No matter how hard they try, Chennai always messes up in their bowlers selection.

George Bailey is my man of the match.

LOL

People really need to sort themselves out. How come I didn't see anyone blaming Dhoni when CSK won the last match against Mumbai with the same bowling attack. Yes, because they won the game and when you win a game, nobody remembers anything else but once you lose, the same people will rip you apart. If you can't back your team in bad time, you have no right to celebrate their joy. Once Kings 11 posted that total, match was almost done. However, Raina came out in that beast mode and opened up the match again but as soon as he got out, the match was done. Clearly no one was timing it as good as Raina did. He deserved that century and it is unfortunate the way he got out. Sehwag was too good for CSK.

Very very well said. I was about to post something similar. The same "all India bowling attack" was being hailed until the last game. Faf was doing a fab job as an opener. Ashwin was giving challenges to Maxwell.

Fair-weather fans ?

Very happy to see Sehwag back to form. It has come against my home team but no regrets. Viru is back, thats more than enough from an Indian perspective. Time to cheer Punjab against Kolkatta, anyway hoping for a great game in Bangalore.

Here i come Bangalore! :yes

What you said makes a hell lot of sense but what has that got to do with my post? I said bailey is my man of the match for that run-out and if you can give MoM award for scoring 20-odd runs then a wonderful run-out which changes the game deserves one too.

You pick teams also based on the opposition strength. With hitters like Maxwell, Miller, Sehwag, etc, its a pretty big risk to field an all Indian bowling attack against such batting. When you start hitting, Indian bowlers tend to wilt more quickly.

I praise Dhoni and mock Dhoni from time to time. When he does well, I praise him, when he doesn't, I mock him. That doesnt mean I am a fair-weather fan. I cant praise him when he is not doing well. Doing both is actually better than just doing one IMO. I am still a huge Dhoni fan (to me, its Sachin first and then Dhoni and then the rest).
