What a waste of a thread. It had so much to offer but has been reduced to petty squabbling.
I agree, this thread is to sort out some issues, when you don't have something to add to the conversation speak on MSN or something. It is ridiculous to come on here and bitch about each other, then complain that the admins and mods aren't posting here. Why would they post here when the last 4 pages or something have been utter crap?
The fact is, I didn't have a problem with most mods until today, and still don't, but the response we've recieved shows a complete lack of respect for us.
I am incredibly disappointed as I said before, about some of the responses especially by Colin, one of the most respected members of this forum, to put us all down like that. We are all important to this process, and the fact is that as Simbazz said, Duff was not speaking for himself, he was trying to mediate a sensible discussion, that started off quite well, but has now gone downhill. Duff was starting the thread because if Simbazz had, it would have been closed. The fact that one mod agrees with this shows that it has merit.
After saying all that I said I am disappointed to not even be handed a discreet PM as a response, as I believe that what I said has a lot truth and merit to it. Anyone who denies there is a problem is like denying there was a holocaust, not as severe, but certainly ou can all see this complaining going on in here? There may not be a crisis, but there is certainly a problem.
So I can go over it again, and say that us members don't recieve much respect, that mods think they're bigger than us and act to put us down at times, that being strict gets you few friends, and that I don't come on here because I want to be bossed around, rather to have a debate on whatever the topic is, even if it is off topic.
If someone is discussing someone it doesn't matter whether it matches the thread title or not, the fact is that a debate is flowing and whatever happens happens. Name one person, who really TRULY cares if we start talking about, for example, Murali in a World Cup thread? I assume you will say the mods, but does it really matter?
Talking about how no mods could never work, I happen to post on a forum called the Cats Claw, a Geelong Football Club (Aussie Rules) message board, and we have 3 admins on the site. One never posts, but helps with money flow, one posts ocassionally, and the other posts about as much as say myself. Between those 3 mods, threads are rarely closed, no posts are deleted and rarely are they even edited. There is no real stranglehold or control, and you know what, it works fine! No one complains, no one really cares at all, members are only banned in extreme cases, and if someone is being an idiot then everyone just criticizes them for it, there is no strictness at all, and the fact is that it runs as smoothly as any board could.
Now this board is bigger than that one, has a lot more members with far differing opinions, and perhaps requires more control, but the truth is, it is going too far now. What Duff did was what we would all like to have done. I considered it at one stage, but felt I would get no respect as I haven't got it before when querying things. As rickyp said, when we ask you about a closed thread or deleted post, we KNOW that we have no chance of getting it overturned. Moderators should simply be peacekeepers, to help the forum run, but at the moment they are acting like school bullies. Some mods are quite intimidating at times, and knowing that one on one is a lot less powerful than a full discussion, Duff acted to let everyone share their view together.
One member versus an admin is generally a little thing, but it's true that this HAS gotten you guys to stand up and listen.
