These are players who I've selected over the last year and a half that have managed to keep their place in the squad. It's a bit hard as with the exception of Greg Hay they all to be consistently good in both forms of the game.
Brent Arnel has certainly proved himself in the one day form of the game taking many classy South African batsmen's wickets but I only called him up as Chris Martin retired and Chris Martin was a better test bowler than one day bowler unlike Arnel.
DeWayne Bowden is there as Jacob Oram is getting older and becoming more and more injury prone. Joseph Yovich was my first choice Oram replacement but he offered nothing with the bat and struggled with the ball in the test form of the game. I probably need to move him up the order from but it's hard with Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson, Grant Elliott, Jesse Ryder, Tim Weston, Brendon McCullum, Greg Hay and Greg Todd all trying to cement a spot in the middle order. Also I think he's going to be a "One Day Specialist"
Greg Hay is really looking like he's here to stay, after flirting with the likes of Luke Woodcock and Daniel Flynn he shows he's got the best ability.
Greg Todd is finding it hard to find a spot in the team but he shows promise in being the next Scotty Styris.
Timothy Weston is shaping out to be a good McCullum back up but lacks concentration, he more often than not gets to fifty and then goes out.
I've also started with Kane Williamson and Shannon Stewart who both show promise but ti's too early to tell.
I've tried Iain Robertson but he absolutely failed in Tests and ODI's but he scored a couple of half centuries and bowled well in T20's. Nathan McCullum is more consistent than Robertson but he's no Vettori. Can anyone recommender a back up spinner?
I'm also on a quest to find a second opener, I tried Ingram for a while but in Tests and ODI's he averaged under 30 which wasn't good enough. Keiran Noema-Barnett certainly had a good first series against Australia with scores of 109, 98* and 40 but since then he either gets to 40 and then goes out or gets to 20 and goes out. Can anyone recommend an opener?
I've tried the following players and they all failed:
Neil Parlane- Played 3 ODI's against Zimbabwe, he was always slow to start and ended up with an average of 10
Lance Shaw - Took a 5fer on debut but in his next 2 matches he took no wickets at 8 an over.
Darren Broom - Played 3 test matches and only had an average of 10.33 to show for it.
Andrew DeBoorder - Played in a series against West Indies, was a very slow batsman and only averaged 19, also only averaged 22 in his 2 test matches.
Warren McSkimming - Played one test, scored a 44 but I didn't want him for his batting ability I want him for his bowling ability which he had none of.
Craig Cumming - Don't ask!
So yeah if anyone could suggest any players that have worked for them that'd be great.
