Playing Cricket vs. Watching Cricket

Cricket games should replicate more of...

@cricket_online I couldn't agree more re stats. Essential to the "watching" side of things and definitely integral not bells and whistles as you rightly say.

DBC14 got some stats wrong, often in glaring ways. Whether with things missing (maidens, top score) or shown at irrelevant times (over score comparison in tests/fc) or strangely ordered as with the match overview scorecard.

As you say we need depth in stats, relevant charts etc. I l strongly think that as well as being on demand they should pop up too as part of "TV style" presentation.

Stats shouldn't be relegated to the companion app if that app indeed comes. The app should keep things over time, seasons etc. especially as an almanac style thing @Dutch suggested. But the important stuff must be shown in game, fully, and when relevant.

Absolutely agree, stats to me are so fundamental to cricket, and presenting them properly like how the BBC used to present them for test matches, and how channel 9 or star do it for t20s. I think I had mentioned something along these lines in the wishlist type threads a while back, I definitely think stats could be part of the action in between balls, although I'd like it to be skippable. it would be great to see things like top score on this ground lists, highest partership list etc pop up as well as the various graphs and charts. As long as it's format related as well. I don't want to see WASP in a test match or run rate graphs but I do want historic records, stats and graphs becoming a relevant and even necessity in game.

I have been lucky enough to play 2nd eleven county stuff and university first class stuff and for me a game will never feel like playing cricket and like be a pro in rugby and football don't feel like rugby or football!

I'm probably the minority here but the batting cam in any cricket game doesn't feel like I'm playing cricket or watching cricket.

However regardless of that I appreciate how well it was implemented and fun for many to play.

I myself tend to try and simulate what I'd see on the tv. So I'm watching the game essentially but having an input on the outcome of the game.

So the DRS etc is all golden to me as it looks like I'm sat down watching sky on the tv and replicating the same game or series that is occurring at the time.

If the VR took off and was implemented properly then maybe we are looking at a different kettle of fish. But as it is what ever camera you use it's essentially still a controller in your hands and a button your pressing.

For me seeing a bowler run in hit the deck nip one away and take a faint edge through to the keeper is what I want to see ha!

Ps: love a stat! I'm the kinda guy that also gets excited over new scoreboard overlays etc!

Have a look at this and wet your pants! Now this I want in DBC....

England vs Australia this is actual output of the cricket coach game engine and will output a whole season: every ball in every game in every country for a whole season!!!! This is just one series but will do everything else that his been played and rank bowlers and batsman and all kinds of other records.

I nearly sharted and ejaculated at the same time!!!!!!. I would love to have that or something similar. Also I dunno how many of you may have Sachins book but the stats in there are great. Year/series/vs nation/average per position etc it's definitely something like this added to that maybe a personal page showing you your highest/average score on the differing skill levels, or how you fair vs spin etc.

And a detailed records section with achievements for passing those, even getting mentioned in commentary and have the lists shown graphically when approaching said record/milestone.

P.S sorry I'm rambling, stats and; in particular, cricket stats are kinda my bag baby

Whilst DBC14 was a big stride forward, it was still lacking in the stats department. This is an area that could be greatly, and dare I say, easily, expanded and implemented. And it would add so much more depth and interest in the games and series you are playing.

I love the idea of tying it the game with Cricinfo's website somehow. Whether or not that's possible or permissible, I don't know.

One Word: Companion App.

...okay two.

Two words.

Two.

One Word : NO

Companion app would be great as supplement but as blocker and others have stated ... stats does require a great uplift in the game, i would personally like to see the stats when im in game and in the flow, like say im heading into a series against Eng with V. kohli and i notice sub par average there, i would get charged to change that, something i wouldnt want to have to look into my mobile for !

i would nt mind the stats synced with Com.APP for leisure checking, but wouldnt want it exclusively to hold that!

Fully agree @grkrama. The companion app - if it exists- would be good for stats over time.

Within an innings/match it has to be in the screen, both on demand from the menu and shown in TV style presentation pop up during the game at the proper moments/contexts

The two aren't mutually exclusive. I also have never suggested it as a replacement, only to extend upon what is already offered in game.

Not mutually exclusive, but i think they serve slightly different purposes.

The almanac stuff, and the "i wonder how i've performed against left arm spinners in ODIs in australia" would be great in a companion app.

The where have i scored my runs today, how have the innings partnership developed, where have they bowled to me etc. must be in the game. Your response to Cappy Oz could have been interpreted as any expansion on the existing stats should be in the companion app (though I understand that wasn't what you meant).

Yeah, I was just meaning the stuff like career records, milestones and editable data that's already in the academy could be ported to a companion app. In fact, I would even shove some of the match, tournament and non-GFX academy stuff in there as well.

Ideally for me there would be so many different stats, records tables and graphs in the non playing scenes and the in-game menus as to only use the companion app to look at players stars if I wasn't already playing the game. Possibly it would be a nice place to have some fun records in there like:

- last 10 inns
- shortest/longest innings
- catches dropped
- tosses won(for captain)
- sundries totals (for bowler) etc.

It would be cool if it was presented as a BACricInfo type app. I would definitely be into that. Looking up all of your custom players, teams and competition stats would be perfect for me.

...Even bringing back that awesome "player card" idea and being able to create/trade player cards. The lifespan on that wouldn't be long but it would be incredibly fun to make, collect and trade custom teams.... cough @MattW cough
