Sony Playstation 3 Work-In-Progress

It will come as no surprise to many of us that the Sony Playstation 3 is not done yet. If you consider the launch is a good 9 months away then the next thought in your head should be, ?that gives them a good 6 months to work on it.? Making a console is like any other project out there ? changes will be made right up to the 12th hour.

On Gamefaqs,PS3 got most votes,with Nintendo Revolution 2nd,and Xbox 360 3rd

I was surprised to see the Revolution ahead of the Xbox 360.

PS3 - Most Expansive Console Ever Made

PS3 to sell for $399, cost $494 to make!

Gamespot: It is normal for game companies to take a loss on hardware whenever a new console launches, since they typically focus on acquiring market share rather than generating a profit during the first year. During the second year and afterward, they can recover the losses with the savings that come from mass production and with licensing fees from publishers.

However, Merrill Lynch Japan warns that the normal console business cycle may be disrupted if Microsoft cuts the Xbox 360's price when the PlayStation 3 launches. The report goes on to say that such a move could hurt Sony's plans, bringing an additional loss of 80 billion yen ($730 million) in its second year and 50 billion yen ($457 million) in its third year. Thus far, Sony has already invested 200 billion yen ($1.83 billion) into development and production for the Cell chip alone.

Thanks, Big Boss!Good to see you back giving us info!Well if that were a gta screen we know that we'd be looking forward to one of the best games ever.Graphics is the major place where GTA falls down(and those bloody side missions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!),but the gameplay has always been rather good.Pity it's a fake.

Thanks Sachin - a French website "Jeux-France" - They say that the next GTA game will be six times larger than San Andreas, with 350 different cars, and would see players having to administrate fuel levels in the cars they drive - I don't know if thats true or not, but we can hope - 350 DIRFFERENT cars :)

PS3 Web Browsing, Movie downloading

PS3 is to be an all-in-one unit, capable of entertaining gamers, appeasing audiophiles, and replacing outdated equipment with its multiple functions. PS3 is becoming like a PC. You can plug in a keyboard, mouse, and other USB peripherals. You can brows on th web, download games, music, and movies!!!

Read more for more info -

* Web Browsing - HDTV displays makes web browsing on a console device practical, and said that "there's really no reason why we or some other software publisher can't come out with a web browser." The decision on whether to ship a web browser would be based on consumer demand for the feature.

* USB keyboard or other USB peripherals - Plug a standard USB keyboard or other USB peripherals into the USB ports on the front of the PlayStation 3.

* Downloading of media from the Internet - A feature which was originally discussed for the PlayStation 2 and has now been touted for its successor, Hirai commented that while the technology to download movies was available for PS2, the infrastructure was not. "When we talked about PS2 back in '99, I believe, [online download] was obviously the technology we had," he said. "The other half is obviously the infrastructure - unfortunately, we don't control it. And I think that the broadband networks, the adoption of broadband and hopefully, you know, faster broadband, is something that consumers are going to adopt very quickly." "Once we have the infrastructure and we have the technology, then you're good to go," he continued. "You've got to have both sides of the equation." One piece of equipment that was destined to be binned by the PS3's versatility was the home Internet router. Three Ethernet ports on the PS3 were originally designed to help the PS3 function as a broadband router, letting other devices hook up to the PS3 as though it were a hub. "For the next generation console," he explained to the Congressional Internet Caucus, "online is going to be like air conditioning in a car. You're going to need it."

PS3 to lose Sony $1.18 Billion US in 1st year?
