Ponting in top five of all time

The thing about Hayden that is surprising is that he's up there despite being pretty poor on his first attempt at Test cricket. It was only when he was recalled a bit later to open alongside our former No. 3 batsman Justin Langer (who now specialising in inspiring deluded forum members' usernames) that he was actually any good. You'd think his first stint would mean a bit.

Anyway, I'm not surprised Punter's up there. Best batsman in the world at the moment, and there's a fair gap before the next one. It's hard to compare batsmen of different eras, as I'm sure Bradman was never around when they had pitches that allowed scores of 6/650+ and 0/403 (still can't get over it, that's huge). But at least you can give him credit for dominating his own era, which he has done pretty comprehensively.

What do you think about Sourav Ganguly? Dada is an excellent player but irony of fate he is ignored by Mr. Greg Chappel and Mr. Rahul Dravid.Rahul dravid is most gellous player in India and Mr. Chappel is palying villen role in Indian Cricket. They are really busterd

One thing that would have put Ricky Ponting up higher in the list at 5
would be that he took over as Captain of a very successfull side and
the side continued to be successfull, plus his batting average went up,
which is pretty rare considering how much work-load he has to bare,
plus he's probably the best, if not, the best Captain in the world
and the best batsman at present...

Hayden deserves to be in 15th, if not, a little higher.
I can't see why some would disagree, especially if you've
actually watched his entire career from start to the present.

I do agree though, there are plenty missing from the list..!

PeAcE.
Andrew...
captaining should not be given much importence
if the team is such as even taibu will do a equal job as captain of aus :p
its a player ranking not a captain ranking

.....and why to forget, that pitches these days are much easier for batting. Now, we rarely see a green top wicket in international cricket. So, batting in those days was much difficult than today.

Well the top 4 players are from that era so I guess it has that thing right :D

I am sure the staticians didnt see or took into account Pontings greta and miraculos record against Indians in India.

i dont think people other than australians rate him good
but for players like lara & tendulkar ........undoubtebly every one from every country rate them high

For the Humor & Jokes forum in my opinion!

Dada is a great player, but he has a big weakness. He is almost like a sitting duck against short pitches rib cage deliveries! He cant defend them well! He is a great player on the off side and is a good captain, but he doesnt deserve a mention in the Top 20 or Top 30 list of all time players!
