The thing about Hayden that is surprising is that he's up there despite being pretty poor on his first attempt at Test cricket. It was only when he was recalled a bit later to open alongside our former No. 3 batsman Justin Langer (who now specialising in inspiring deluded forum members' usernames) that he was actually any good. You'd think his first stint would mean a bit.
Anyway, I'm not surprised Punter's up there. Best batsman in the world at the moment, and there's a fair gap before the next one. It's hard to compare batsmen of different eras, as I'm sure Bradman was never around when they had pitches that allowed scores of 6/650+ and 0/403 (still can't get over it, that's huge). But at least you can give him credit for dominating his own era, which he has done pretty comprehensively.
