Have any of you guys got the Sold Out edition of this game and did you get it to work with Win XP? I've tried autorun (using the crappy Sold Out installer - not the first time I've had trouble with this label), clicking on other setup files on the disc (usually works, that) and even numerous compatibility modes, resolutions and colour depths. Nothing works. I didn't play this game first time round, and I just found it in a second hand shop yesterday. I've googled extensively but can't find anything of use.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Edit: I'm running Win XP SP3.

No one, huh? There was a similar issue with Sold Out BLIC '99, but there was a way round that one.

Is it an old game? I remember when trying to run NFS II SE on my PC it wouldn't work because of having two cores or too much physical memory. I got it to work using Microsoft Application Compatibility manager, using compatibility options like "Global Memory Status Lie" and some option saying disable second core etc.

Download and install Application Compatibility manager and it should be pretty simple from there - or you can google how to use it. I'm in a hurry atm so if nothing works I'll explain in detail on Sunday.

Hope that helps.

Around ten years old, so yes. Thanks for your help, I'll give that a go.

Edit: Not sure if I've d/l the right thing: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=24DA89E9-B581-47B0-B45E-492DD6DA2971 is the link I used and I d/l all the files, but it just keeps asking for an SQL server. I click 'browse', but it appears that no such servers are running on this network. I think I better leave this. I don't understand it at all and I don't want to bugger up my PC for the sake of one game; a ten year old one at that. Maybe I d/l the wrong thing; if so, can you give me a link to the application you used?

If you can help on Sunday, that'll be cool. If not, thanks for your help anyway. :)

Have any of you guys also had problems with the Sold Out label on a modern system? This isn't the first time I've had problems with this particular label; I think I'll avoid them in the future.

Yeah I think I installed the SQL server too. What the Application Manager does is that it emulates certain environments for games according to requirement. For example, if the game has problems with dual cores, it can emulate to be only a single core. If the game has problem with too much physical memory, it can emulate lower physical memory.

EDIT - No wait, something's wrong somewhere. Its not what I used lol. I'll shift back to XP later today where I have it installed and get you some more info. :)

Thank you, I really appreciate your help. :) I'd definitely rep you, but it appears I have to spread the love a bit first.

Do you think it's more likely to be a software problem than a duff disc? As I said, the installer autoruns fine, but it just doesn't go on to the next bit.

Yeah as I said some older programs have problems with accessing too much memory / 2 cores and they just don't seem to work. I had my first such experience with NFS II SE.

I'm on XP now, let me collect some info.
