What is the extent of the PS3 editing abilities. Is it at all possible for someone to edit the players in the Australian and England teams?

Unlikely, yielded a checksum error when making some simple edits. A checksum error is a corrupt data issue.

I think the only way for now to get accurate players in the Ashes teams is through the custom players no?

Had the same error when editiing stats. There must be a way to fix it but looks very advanced!

Unfortunately I think its impossible. Has any cricket game on console ever been edited or patches by PC members?

No, not for Ashes cricket 09. I'm just saying that it was possible to edit consoles.

Not sure anyone is trying to make progress. You'd best find someone with coding knowledge and with a PS3...
First thing to do is to make a small edit such as change two skill attributes: one up, one down and then compare the files. If you can figure out what is changing apart form the two bytes in question then you can try and do it purely through hex editing.

Yeah, if it's still not figured out by my summer holiday's I'm gonna give it a shot despite knowing little;)

Ive told you what to do and how to do it...
Here are the steps again for you.
1. Back up your user.dat
2. Start the game and go to customisation/players
3. Choose a player and remove 1 point from 1 skill and add it to another.
4. Quit the game
5. Compare the two rosters

If you really can't do step 5 then post them here instead.
