The Big Day

Me and Stu woke up early at 5:30 because we needed to get down to the GABBA early to practice. We were so excited we just couldn't get that much sleep last night. But we felt like we had enough energy to last for a few days without sleep. We had breakfast and showered before leaving the house at 6:30. In the car we talked about our strategies and how we hoped it would go today. We arrived at 7:30 at the stadium. The first ball was to be bowled at 10:30 so still 3 hours to go and all we wanted to do was get out onto the field. We got into the lounge area where most of the players were and got talking about the game ahead. We then got our training kit on and had a quick nets. Then we got into some fielding practice. Me and Stu both started badly with a dropped catch but we soon picked up our game. An hour and a half to go before we started and we spoke about game plans in the dressing room. The coach came to me and said he wanted a word outside. He told me not to be edgy when I get out to bat and to try and get on top of the bowlers early. He said play your natural game and just perform to the best of your ability. I headed back in and he gave Stu the same sort of talk as he did me. We all got into our Queensland gear and Jimmy headed down to the middle for the toss...

Nice update mate . Trev and Culli are doing a good job . This is what i call as realism. Keep it up.:cheers

The Big Day

... The pitch was dry and Jimmy wanted to bat first and give our spinners as much turn as he could on a wearing pitch. It also looked like in the sun it would crumble up and become un-even so Stu was hoping that we would bat first. Jimmy came back and said "Well you'll never guess, The fools have put us into bat." So now was my first time to shine. Coming in at 6 but hoping that the top 5 of Maher, Hayden, Hopes, Love and Phillipson could keep me at bay until the last 10 or 15 overs where I could hit out. Stu was also happy that he had a little more time to think about his game and that he would be bowling on a slightly un-even surface. So Jimmy and Haydos walked out onto the middle and got underway. Haydos started positively smashing a huge straight six down the ground to get us to 12/0 off the first 4 overs. Jimmy though looked all at sea and got hit on the crest of Queensland on his helmet. but he tried and tried to keep the bowlers at bay. It was fascinating watching from the balcony of the GABBA dressing rom as a player of Queensland. I just took a look around at the stadium and although not many fans were in the ground was immense. The atmosphere in the dressing room was great and to see the technology we had on the laptop tracking every ball, shot and generally anything that happened. Our first wicket went down in the 7th over with 24 runs on the board. I twas Haydos who had to go, Being bowled by Lewis for 14. He came back and gave the batsman in at 4,5,6 and 7 tips on how the pitch was playing. He said to put away the bad ball but on general it is a lot better bowling pitch than it looks. 9 runs later and two overs on the skipper fell to Lewis again this time caught at the long off boundary by Brad Hogg. He had made a nervy 12 and never looked settled at the crease. So after 10 overs we had made it to 34/2 and weren't looking too good.

thats not too bad considering a bolwers surface, good luck trev for when you bat

The Big Day

I started to think about my game with only 2 more wickets falling before I got a chance to go in. But I didn't want to get in too early. I was hoping to be able to get in with the latter part of the innings left. But with the score going slowly and with 2 wickets down it looked like I might be out there sooner than I had hoped. But James and Martin picked up the run rate a bit and go the score up to 71/3 after 15 overs. James Hopes was the man to go becoming Lewis's 3rd victim caught by Crosthwaite for a handy 25 from 16 balls with four 4's. Now I started to get nervous thinking about how I was going to play and especially what it would be like to face Warne, maybe even first delivery. Martin was hitting it nicely and it looked like maybe him and Craig Phillipson could keep me at bay for a bit longer yet. But then with the score on 90 Craig mis-judged a Shane Warne flighted delivery and hit it straight into the safe hands of Crosthwaite for only 2 runs. This meant I was in and the lads just said good luck to me and Jimmy gave me a quick word of encouragement before I walked down the steps for the first time at the GABBA to come out and face my first ball in my professional cricket career. Luckily it was the last ball of Shane Warne's over and I didn't have to face first up. They gave me a bit of sledging about this being my first time and I was a walking wicket but I just ignored it and stood at the non-strikers end...
