Question: is the outfield too slow?

AI really should be number 1 focus, in order of importance: the way the AI bats, particularly the "middle or miss" frustration; field sets and bowling changes.
Number 2 focus: fix the pitch/ball conditions effects.
Number 3 focus: AI batting aggression.

Shouldn't really be wasting your time on anything else.

Completely and utterly agree,

Harold shipman! Nice one @blockerdave! Lol He should of been a boxer, he had a lethal jab!

LOL, love a good ol' serial killer joke!!! I just read that Fred and Rose West's old house is coming up for sale again.

I can't see anyone in their right mind wanting to live there... it's in Gloucester!!

There also needs to be more offside bowling on the console versions, especially from spinners.
Talking about harold shipman I heard he killed himself because he ran out of patience.

Tbh I prefer running 2's and 3's over scoring boundaries all the time in first class matches. I edited all the first class and test match types to long boundary rope.

This was a huge problem post patch 2, where beautifully timed shots would go like a bullet 3/4 of the way to boundary then die quicker than one of Harold Shipman's patients. But it's definitely improved in the later updates pushed out on PC (and I assume console patch 2.5).

However, as others noted above, one of the major issues is every outfield seems the same.

I disagree with your last sentence .

Online and many other issues needs urgent attention as well .

I still think the outfield is very unrewarding. I mean if this happens at veteran difficulty then fine. I play at Pro and its still the same. Actually middling the ball in veteran is a huge task in itself and if the outfield speed is reduced then it really becomes too hard.
If its clear that different people have different views on the outfield speed then probably provide a slider. Its not new to introduce a slider to adjust the gameplay to suit our game either. Even FIFA has sliders to adjust user assistance and CPU skill sliders.

I dont think there should be any slider for outfield, it should be the same for all the levels and the the ball travel shouldn't be entirely based on the timing input and placement...Even in real life an edge travels to the boundary more often than not and that doesn't happen in the game...A short ball played on front foot which hits the handle travels to boundary just because it satisfies the input which is not right in the game..Even the footwork for me seems a bit out as I have to play a straight drive with LAS [foot] at 11'o clock for a left handed which shouldn't be the case as well...There are stuff that needs tweaks but views differ with everyone...

Instead of a slider why not just a fast, normal, slow outfield option? I find that on pro middling the new ball smashes it to the boundary. In one day games I'm regularly 75-100 in 15 overs without using aggressive lofted shots at all

the % of players playing online, vs everyone else frustrated with the AI, means online should not distract from AI fixes. assuming finite resources (i.e. in the real world), something's got to give and it should not be fixing the AI.

See this is why. He says he can easily score 75-100 while I couldn't. I think confidence plays a main role and when I thought I would give the world cup a go after playing career so long, I found all the player's confidence at 0! How am I supposed to gain confidence if I don't get runs?! Its not a test match either.
But otherwise I sorta agree with your point. Ball speed is determined by the bowler's speed, batsman's power on the shot and finally timing. Obviously edges fly because they are edges. If a ball hits the middle or an edge its fast otherwise even with proper timing its gonna move slowly. The problem is the outfield should not be a deciding factor. Improper shots need to be slow right from the time they hit the bat, and likewise for proper shots. The speed curve is too steep now, its reflecting a heavily rain soaked outfield.
By the way, I hit a lofted shot of the top of the bat that went for a four on double bounce, while I middle-ed a lot and it races away past the 30 yards to only stop 6-7 yards before the boundary; just because my timings differed!

Im sure this will be tweaked soon though, atmost by the next iteration.

Yeah I do agree with issues faced in the game...I think they need to settle on the matters that would affect the shots, i.e they should prioritize on what comes first in the game for a ball to reach the boundary...Confidence is something they have in the game but the effect they have is very very minimal...

I think it's rather easy to build up confidence with defensive shots, reading the line well enough to leave balls (which is something I'm not very good at) and obviously putting the ball through gaps. The more you play and miss or get hit by the ball then your confidence decreases. You can't just start an innings with your eye in and smashing it to all parts. I found that I make my biggest totals when I completely ignore the aggressive shot LT and just work on placement, even when fully in. The only time I use it is when the AI sets dumb fields with nobody straight anywhere or there is no third man and they bowl short and wide of off stump.

I ignore the aggressive ground strokes too because they would always hit the ball in the air which isn't what I wanted obviously so I'm happy picking up a few 2's and 3's an over and picking up boundaries along the way.

you can perfectly smash from the word go, unless against a 140+ bowler, as its easier to hit aerial shots when the field is in rather than out and in the process build up your confidence quickly then gear down to run accumulating once the field spreads.

True but whatever said and done, the ball shouldn't be racing past the 30 yards and then stop at 45 yards. Im not saying they must all go to the boundary. Im saying the speed of the ball should be determined majorily by the timing if they say so and not by the outfield friction, which means there must be a smoother decay in speed like the ball starts slowly and ends by 30 yards or starts well and stops by the fence or races way to the boundary right from the start.

That should be ideal but only seems comparatively harder right now because of the confidence factor. International players almost never start with zero confidence. Maybe a debutante but even he would be backing himself up.

Or it should just be the correct level of friction given the conditions and what would actually happen. If you don't want the grass to slow the ball down, hit in the air.

Keep in mind that the AI gets the same outfield that you do, you might miss a four here and there, but so will the AI.
