Sigh, India's judicial system has always been horrid. Cases obtain verdicts faster now...but, yeah, it's crazy to see that some of these long term cases haven't been closed down with proper verdicts.

An ludicrous verdict indeed. They got jail time for 2 years and were immediately released on bail :facepalm
Sadly this is the same case in my own home country of Bangladesh. The judicial system is terrible. It takes ages for some cases to come to trial and even then we have corrupted judges to deal with. Sigh.
Can't expect much though. In a country were 40% of the populations is below the poverty line and even civil servants poorly paid.

What's worse is that the US government is still allowing the main accused (Warren Anderson) to live in their land in utmost luxury (he has a nine hundred thousand dollar home in New York) and has ruled out any chances of extraditing him to India or starting any legal proceedings against him at the very least. The victims of the tragedy have not got any sort of help from any authority- be it the US government, be it the Indian government. :facepalm In fact, allegations are surfacing that top governmental offcials (probably from both sides) put pressure on the CBI to let Anderson alone back in the 1990s.

I agree with KC here but to an extent. We are hell bent on statutes here and since you guys did not set up the trials in a timely fashion, we are not obligated to extradite anyone.

Right to a speedy trial is a fundamental aspect of an effective judiciary.

Holy Moly, an old friend from college just came out of the closet. I never EVER suspected it and its a total shock. Really glad that he had the courage to do so though and hopefully now his life will be a lot less secretive and stressful. Crying shame he felt he had to hide it from us all those years.

Well done to him for finding the courage to admit that, I hope he has a good life and finds the right guy.

He's having a party this weekend to celebrate his coming out, his "partner" will be there. This will be a very interesting weekend. I can't even begin to describe how not "gay" this guy seems to be, at least in college.

Not really quiet, but not a party animal either. I just meant because he played basketball competitively and is a very good athlete.

I am tempted to turn gay myself. The last 4 girls I have liked have all gotten boyfriends just as we were getting anywhere. Getting really pissed with the situation now...

Hmm, Ive often though that if it wasent for the whole "having sex with dudes" thing, being gay would be pretty cool.

I have a gay friend. Unfortunately, he's very much like the stereotypical type you see in movies. Very smart, but very "girly" to say the least. Surprisingly, he's very open about it, especially in a Muslim country, and he's Muslim too. But, he hasn't told his parents/family for obvious reasons, although, his parents are more modern.

But, yeah, gay people aren't always "gay" in that sense. Good to see your friend has come out though.

Maney, 4 girls! Need to cut to the chase a bit quicker. ;) I'd probably be in the same situation as you though...except I'm not after a relationship at this point.
