Gun control needs to be seriously regulated. 2nd amendment is because they thought that all 'free' countries back then needed mercenaries in case the gov. goes bad. Doesn't apply anymore IMO.

yay for AP Government and Politics class.

It will never change, part of what has made America so successful is sticking to the Constitution, to the original plan. There have been 27 Amendments in 223 years!

Even minor changes to the constitution are met with seething judicial restraint on the Supreme Court. Who the hell would ever suggest repealing the 2nd amendment! Repealing an amendment that is in the American Bill of Rights, its political suicide and no judge will do it. Wont happen

But instead people keep using their guns for killing the innocent and ACTUAL suicide. Which would they prefer?

For every 1 nutter there are hundreds of thousands of responsible gun owners. That theory is invalid

Might as well ban cars then because some people are going to drink and drive and kill others

Good to see you make it out all well Mark. It must have been horrific for everyone involved. I have no idea why do kids in America go as nuts as this all of a sudden. People blame violent movies and games for this but it has to be a lot deeper than that.

Common sense should be the case really. In Australia you can still get guns for hunting with a special permit.

NZ would be the same as Australia, you can get permits to have guns for hunting etc, but an every day person isn't just going to have one sitting around in his house for self defensive purposes.

The few rampages that have happened here, I wouldn't be surprised if most of them have happened in rural communities, becuase of the easy access to fire arms compared with cities.

I fail to see how that makes the theory invalid. There is barely any reason for civilians being given such easy access to weapons barring an outdated amendment from hundreds of years ago. The amount of gun related incidents in America in comparison to other places such as the UK is frightening.

Basically the exact same way I feel over the issue.

Sadly, true. It would be political suicide for any party to change the 2nd Amendment. Unless, the number of these wild shootings start going up in the future.

The problem is the interpretation of the second amendment. If you look at the commas closely it only gives well regulated militias the right to bear arms.
Could also be a typo and actually a right to bare arms.

Sorry mate but thats wrong.

It means a militia can be kept along with the official military AND normal civilians can keep arms
