Random Thoughts

Like I said it's a matter of interpretation versus original intent. Unfortunately the hagiography of the framers often obscures debate over it.

I think it was intentional, there is a certain vagueness in the text and it leaves room for leeway. This flexibility is what has allowed the document to be used for over 2 centuries with limited change.

Its a successful formula, maybe not for the world but for the American psyche it is.

The framers were opposed to a constantly standing army, it brought back fears of oppression or uprisings. Thus small state (colony) regulated militias with civilians was the conclusion.

Having studied and continuing to study US history in uni, I can't half smile at how Americans swear by their Constiution and abide by what it stands for considering A) How it was formed and B) The fact that a country which claims to be the most modern and democratic society on the planet feels it is right to lets it citizens run around with things which are designed for killing, maiming and causing suffering.

You can talk all the ████ you want, its not as if taking guns away will eliminate violent crime. People will just resort to stabbing like they do in the UK

Yes, but guns are a lot better at killing then say a knife/broken off bottle etc, plus you can't really go on a killing rampage with the same effect as an AK47 as you can with a knife. It won't reduce violent crime but it will certainly help cut it down

Won't happen, get over it.

You lot don't live here, I don't understand why you are all so passionate about it. I don't give 2 shits what the gun control laws are in your countries.

That does not even make sense.

gun control and human right are different issue.

Also stop this nonsense about America being the truest/direct form of democracy, its not and anyone who actually follows American politics knows so. We are a Republic

You say why do we care about America's policy on letting people run around with things which sole purpose is for killing, so why should you care about other countries politics? Using your logic about us having an opinion on America's gun laws, no one should care about what goes on in other countries.

EDIT - Furthermore to your edit, try saying gun control isn't linked to human rights to the people murdered with guns who lost their lives to them. What about their rights?

Gun control is a local issue, it does not affect (for the large part) geopolitics.
