Random Thoughts

From what I've heard, getting a licence to shoot is the biggest piss take ever in the UK. The Chief Officer of Police has to approve your application in person. They do the biggest background check ever on you. And the certificates take donkeys years to arrive too apparently. Tbh it's not worth the hassle there. What are the laws in the States?

Its not that hard, it just costs a bomb load and you have to pay extra tax on it. Which is a b****.

They vary by state. In Texas as long as you are a citizen or permanent resident, have no criminal record and have not been judged to be mentally incompetent then you can buy a gun.

Process: walk into store, pick out gun, pay money, walk out of store with gun.

No gun registration, no wait period, no nothing. Just a simple 5 minute background check and you gots yourself a shooter.

Best part is there is no federal gun registry and Texas chooses not to exercise a state registry. So when you do buy a gun, there is no mechanism for the government to know you have done so. And no way for them to know how many you own.

:)

I've always had a thing for guns, like since I was little (:rolleyes), never shot one though. One of my goals in life for sure, buy a gun myself and shoot it myself, soon.

Mark, you know anything about the gun laws here in Florida? Like are there any major differences compared to a state like Texas?

Florida is one of the best states for gun rights. I don't know the laws specifically but I know they are looser than Texas.

You guys also have the castle doctrine, so if someone breaks in you can fire away without any worry of criminal charges or civil damages against you.

Your home is your castle, at least in Florida and Texas and you can defend it with deadly force.

Same goes with car.

Florida and Texas are also unique in that we do not have a "duty to retreat" statute. So if you are in a situation with a bad guy, you can stand your ground and defend yourself without worrying about legal backlash.

Check out the story of Joe Horn. Old man who saw two illegal aliens breaking into his neighbors house, he went out onto his lawn and shot both of them in the back as they were fleeing with a shotgun. Both died and no charges were filed. In Texas you have the right to defend property with deadly force, including your neighbors property.

My parents live in that city, this case brought it close to home. Was great to see the entire community rally around Joe.

around the 5:00 mark is when he goes after them

This happened not too long ago. Rockin old man takes on the thugs

and this is a classic example of a home invasion. Probably the only serious crime that is likely to happen to someone in upper middle class America. Most murders are drug, gang or personal. It's the home invasions that are completely random and scary.

wow I didn't realize how many of these there are on youtube.

anyways, I thought gun laws in India were pretty lax. Or at least there is high gun ownership.

I know any arab/pakistani/korean who owns a convenience store here is armed.

My local Shell station is owned by a young Bengali guy and his dad. I know the son has a big ass 45 caliber glock within arms reach at all time. I'd bet anything the Dad is packing and there is a shotgun under the counter.

a right not exercised is a right lost.

Get a .22 rifle to start with Epic. You can get one for about $120 from Wal Mart.

Ammo is cheap like 500 rounds for 20 bucks. You'll start researching and learning as you go along. Sport shooting is a great hobby.

Jesus, the last 20 pages in the thread have been about guns. Not really "random" anymore.

That is actually a piss take. I asked just to find out, you have to have a criminal record check (4 weeks min) and licence (1 month for approval). Can't use in public places just designated areas.(No where near me). Plus extra tax and bullets cost a bomb

That really sucks about designated areas. I legally carry a .380 handgun on my person at all times. Feels good man
