Brett Lee celebrates his magnificent hat-trick

Brett Lee stole the show with an incredible hat-trick to finish with figures of 5-33 leaving the Proteas in a state of shock and awe. On a pitch which was made for spinners it was a strange occurrence for not one spinner to be used during the entirety of the game with Australia dismantling South Africa so fast Cameron White didn’t even get to warm up.

A solid start was made by the South African opening batsmen but it was Brett Lee who picked up the wicket of Graeme Smith to start a collapse which never stopped. The Australian pace bowlers lead by Nathan Bracken picked apart the Proteas batting line up one by one and when Brett Lee was re-introduced to the attack after his opening burst he took a hat-trick which added insult to injury.

Albie Morkel was the first of the three musketeers after being caught by Shaun Marsh in the covers, Mark Boucher then followed suit after being judged lbw in a very easy decision for the umpire and then finally Vernon Philander who appeared to be over roared by the occasion found Brett Lee way to quick being dismantled by a perfect yorker to complete the treble.

The Australians then collected the final two wickets to complete the total domination of the best one day side in the world. The South African’s will need to rethink all their strategies heading into the next match in a bid to stay in the series and keep any hope of them staying ranked as the number one side alive.

2nd One Day International v South Africa

After all the build up the result seen in the first match was a shock to everyone who saw it. The Australians proved they are to be taken seriously by dominating the Proteas despite the middle order missing out on the runs an issue which when resolved will provide an even scarier task for their opposition. South Africa will have looked over the loss again and again trying to prove to themselves as well as the cricketing world why they are ranked number one.

Pitch Report
There is a little bit of movement for all bowlers on this sunny day with the outfield in good shape but not exceedingly quick.

We will now look at the line ups for today’s match

South Africa

Graeme Smith
Hashim Amla
JP Duminy
AB de Villiers
Ashwell Prince
Jacques Kallis
Albie Morkel
Mark Boucher
Vernon Philander
Monde Zondeki
Lonwabo Tsotsobe

The axe has fallen with Ashwell Prince coming in for Neil McKenzie trying to create a more aggressive middle order to capitalize during the middle overs. Monde Zondeki has replaced Dale Steyn in a shock move which has made headlines around South Africa. The Proteas will need to get back into form quickly in order to have a chance in the series.

Australia

Phil Hughes
Shaun Marsh
Ricky Ponting (c)
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Shane Watson
Brad Haddin
Cameron White
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Nathan Bracken

Australia come into the game unchanged from the line up that dismantled South Africa. Their spin options of Michael Clarke and Cameron White will be used as a fifth bowler in a move which could leak a few runs but if Brett Lee and the rest of the pace attack perform like they did in the previous match this shouldn’t be an issue. The middle order will be looking to prove their worth and put some runs on the board in a bid to gain even more dominance.

The Toss
South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat on a surface which should see runs pile up. Batting first is a wise decision with South Africa in need of runs on the board if they wish to have any chance of victory.

Great win for the Aussies in the first game. It will be interesting to see how South Africa bounce back from that.

Hopefully the Aussies can restrict South Africa fairly well, but it's gonna be hard on such a good batting track.

Nice work mate, kiu.

Duminy Dominates As Proteas Pile On The Runs

Duminy Blasts Away To Set A Massive Total

JP Duminy has hit an amazing 181 not out to help South Africa set an impressive 332 runs for victory. Duminy reached his 100 in 100 balls and then picked up the pace to leave Australia under pressure during their chase later today.

The game started with Mitchell Johnson picking up the wicket of Hashim Amla for just 7 to start Australia off on the right foot but Graeme Smith and JP Duminy formed a 100 run partnership to create a big momentum swing for the Proteas. Smith then fell to Cameron White but JP Duminy continued to power on while his partners kept him on strike to let him dominate the Australian attack especially Shane Watson who went for more than 8 an over.

South Africa?s batting line up did more than redeem itself for their poor performance in the first match of the series by setting the Aussies a tough task. The Australians will have little room for error in chasing down this large total but have the batting depth to do so while the Proteas bowling line up will be looking to regain respect after a poor performance in the previous match also.

Good job by Duminy there, go SAF!!

I think you should add a little more writing, maybe tell us more about the whole team, who fell
and who did well, KIU

Wow!!!brilliant century by Duminy, as he scored more than half of his side's runs. 332 I won't say very difficult but if the inexperience South Africa bowling can bowl well then, the Saffers might win or else I see the Aussies winning.

An awesome innings from Duminy there. Will be a tough chase for the Aussies. Anyways best of luck chasing it down mate. A nice write up also KUGTW.
