RIP World Cup Super League 2020-23 (World Cup Qualifier Jun 16 - Jul 9)

Just imagine you take these ten teams, put them in with the eight that have already qualified - 3 groups of 6 - a much more interesting World Cup.
So then what would the knockout scenario be? Top 2, and the two best-placed 3rd placed teams for the QFs?

You could have a Super Six with the top 2. My preference would be QFs in the way you described because knockouts are more exciting the more round robins.

I remember sharing a blog post on here, during one of the many discussions about formats for tournaments, that laid out a 20-team tournament which I think was 4 groups of 5 and provided some really interesting groups - if you base it on the Top 20 teams - add in Namibia or PNG/Canada to these lot. Something like this:

Three out of those four groups have an interesting battle going on for the second spot and there's always a chance of Ireland beating out NZ or England to get in there too (assuming they first overcome Scotland!).

Nepal bowlers have lost their way in the match. Windies scoring 10 and half an over in the last 5 overs or so. Hope and Pooran make such a good pair. If only Nepal managed to grab Hope early there ain't many batsmen in the Windies lineup who are comfortable tagging along with ones and twos.

West Indies on the other end is in the commanding position but they would want to scrutinize their woes before the main tournament starts. The formidable teams won't give them any breather once they are down.

Yes, which should work on paper but they have been able to excel in anything (T20 style or FC style to play out the overs well) consistently. The problem at the domestic structure has been persisting for far too long now with them. Not at all a good sign considering they have won 4 WCs in total (2 each for ODIs and T20Is) in their past. These days, they are just too painful to watch. The mojo of the Calypso needs to be brought back.

I don't think we'll ever see anything like the halcyon days of Calypso cricket back. The best athletic talents are more likely to turn up in the NBA/American sport of the month and track events. Only those who are interested in cricket or couldn't make the cut there end up remaining in this field. It's why they're struggling to produce all-format cricketers I feel (a global phenomenon at the moment but West Indies seem to be particularly struggling even in the two white ball formats where certain players are good for only one of them but seem to be persisted with in the other because of a lack of experienced alternatives).

Has Hope learned to rotate strike instead of eating dot balls now? If so that may be the biggest positive for West Indies in their white ball setup.

There's only Canada - which is just back to ODI status that you'd think would have no chance of winning at least one match, but they did beat the USA in the World Cup Qualifier Qualifier.

Never say never when Ireland is here!

Saiteja has been disappointing. Such a great talent and expected a little more from him.

USA are out then. Nepal v Netherlands looks to be a shoot out to qualify for the Super Six.
Very disappointing since they were really good in the Super League. They really had a great shot and the batting failed them completely.

Might have been a bit stronger with Ian Holland but he's been sat doing nothing for 3 weeks in Hampshire.

I think the Major League Cricket will give them a good idea, going forward, of who the real good players are. When there's a lot higher quality players it should sort out which US players can stand out at international level.
