SA or India : The Real Challengers To Australia`s Throne.

Our selectors should give Dinda a try, he can be a handy bowler especially in the T-20's.
a) Too in-experienced. I'd rather play someone like Bose. Give him some more time, some tour games and some India-A matches.
b) Too many quicks waiting in line - Zaheer, Ishant, Munaf, RP, Sreesanth, Irfan, Kumar. Even Gony and Bose have gone on tour with India. He'll have to do a lot to get ahead in the pecking order.
c) We really don't need T20 specialists :p

Prospect for the future though, and playing under Ganguly in the IPL will be great for him (Considering Ganguly is still in the IPL?)

No to Bose. He's too slow. Zaheer, Ishant and Munaf are the obvious top 3. Sreesanth could potentially compete with Munaf for that spot. Irfan, we've lost him as a bowler so he has to come back as an all rounder and for that to happen he would have to take his brother's spot. Praveen, I have no idea why he never came back; very talented bowler. Gony is too hot and cold and doesn't know what to do when he's being hit.

Bose is slow, but if we had a massive injury crisis I think he'd be the go to man with his accuracy and experience. All the others in the list are far more threatening, and it isn't like we need a pressure-building bowler ATM.

Officially they are still the no 2 in tests. They will have to beat the aussies in the final test to top the charts. Not an easy job.:nowa

Dont worry Aussies wont be troubling teams in 2009 as well.

In my opinion,

SA Vs India :

Captaincy : Though Smith and Dhoni are leading the list in successive captains, Smith gains a bit more than Dhoni in his aggressive captaincy nature and Dhoni gains a bit more in handling the things with creativity.

Whoever is greater, both fit to their respective teams as the best captains among the current players in their teams.

Batting : In this field, I feel an equal contest again. Like as class as Tendulkar present in India, SA do have Kallis with them. Promising match winning players are present in both the teams.

Bowling :

In Spin, Indians have a clear upper hand! Asian spinners always gain a upper hand over Non Asian ones. [ Warne and Vettori are exceptions though ]

But in fast bowling... Its SA! If you give the same ball bowled by Steyn or Morkel to Munaf and RPSingh to bowl in current Aussie test series, I am sure Hayden would have gained his form back. :D Ishant Sharma is alone an exception for me. Sharma along with Zaheer alone raise the Indian bowling standards. Other than these two, Indian bowling is of poor standards when compared to Irish bowling also.

........ NO Comments Other than this.... SouthAfrica's pace bowling is Quality!

Fielding :

Like how said in Spin(Asians are better), in fielding its vice versa! For some reasons, Non Asian fielders tend to have more athleticism built in them. That doesn't mean at the same time, India is poor in fielding. Players like Yuvraj, Raina are brilliant fielders.. but...

How many direct and accurate hits have our Indian fielders produced compared to SA or Australia? Hardly few....

Teams :

SA look strong to me on papers. But it's only with the creative captaincy of Dhoni and tactics of Gary Kirsten, India can still put a fight to claim the number 1 spot. Otherwise, everything looks fine for SouthAfricans to stay at #1.

But seriously, They deserve to be in number 1 right from the 1999 Wcup. I pity them as there was no luck for them. My mind says, India should win the WC 2011.. but my heart says, SA or Kiwis or Windies to grab the 2011 WCup. :)

A NZ Vs AUS WC final will be an absolute cracker. One step below Ind-Pak games though.

I don't think you can really rate Dhoni yet. He's done a credible job so far, but the effectiveness of a captain can only really be seen after an extended time period. After he's been through the high's and low's both home and away and with different players at his disposal, much like this season being the true test of Ponting's captaincy.

South Africa are a much better team than India, and the rankings say so too.

India have NEVER won a test series in Australia or South Africa, and until they do they will never be number 1.

India has also rarely performed well outside the subcontinent, don't forget the test series win in England had as much to do with rain/bad light and umpiring errors as brilliant play on the Indians part.

The player v player thing is a total waste of time, it is how the TEAM performs that matters. You could have tried matching Smith up against Gambhir instead of Sehwag, but then again that would not have supported your ridiculous argument, and Smith is a superior batsman to flat track slogger Sehwag anyway.

I think I was watching diffrent matches then when India was in England.

India avoided certain defeat in the first test in England due to bad light and a plumb lbw against Sreesanth being turned down.

Dont go on umpiring decisions. We have a certain year old thread full of 500 pages about that.
