Sachin Tendulkar Should Retire...

i dont think he should retire yet but he should soon, i dont see the point in him playing though, hes playing for his career statistics imo, if i was him i wouldnt retire though lol, gets quite alot of 50s then converts them into decent scores...

..Says Ian Chappel

Read it here.

lots of Indians will think that he is an idiot. But actually read it and it does make sense, and maybe he is right?

I guess, Tendulkar knows very well about cricket right? ;) he know when and how to end his career.. I don't find any reason in Chappel's unnecessary and meaningless interruption.

SriLankan team is the very best example.. where Vaas, Murali and Jayasuriya( who are all senior most cricketers ) still remain as the match winners. Some people think, sack all seniors... bring all boiling young people.. I am totally against it.. You always need to promote the young people under the experience of senior people. Without experience, its a big gamble.

If so, he wouldn't have got numerous 90's in his career:rolleyes:

This is how many people in these days are... They forget all.. One bad series... thats it.. They wanted to burry the cricketer alive and walk over it.. Many fail to realise that there will be both peak forms(Ups) and downs in one's career.

I strongly believe still, Tendulkar's domination is not yet over which is what a different opinion from one of the articles written long time back by Manee. :)

He's not as good as he used to be - true. Nevertheless, he's still one of the best batsmen India have got.

It will be good if these "Chappels" stay away from Indian cricket.

this has been discussed many times...and i don't see the worth of it. IF Sachin wants, he'll play. He's doing well and that good.

India face a problem with retirements as Sachin, Ganguly and Kumble are all set to retire soon, add Dravid to that too?

The thing with Sachin is - it's a bit like the whole Hayden for Australia situation was. Averaging 30 during a lean spell is not exactly terrible, yet compared to the rest of the scores from their careers it looks like failures. The question is then do you back the chap in poor form to refind his touch and start racking up the big ones again? Or do you throw in a fresh young face that may fail to even contribute at all?

As I said once before, if Sachin is constantly failing, then the key is to drop him. Much like Ganguly, it would force him to ask himself whether he truely has the motivation to win back his place and whether the desire to play international cricket is definitely still there. However at the moment he is still making some useful scores and instead of being one of the best batsman in world cricket is merely one of the pack - and as such still on a par with the majority of international standard batsman.

Bottom line - Would India be able to pick anyone who was sure to contribute more? I'm talking runs, the odd wicket and safe hands in the slips?

I think they will be eased into their retirements. They should also ideally do that. Ideally, the selectors should be including Piyush Chawla into the test team and make him play some important and big test matches.

Yuvraj already has the potential to take over from Ganguly. He has proved it and he is the ideal replacement. We need a replacement for Dravid and Tendulkar. So far, there is no one in the near horizon to replace these two greats. Kaif and Raina just dont seem to give me the confidence. Sehwag was a potential replacement for Tendulkar initially, but he has fallen badly now.

Unless we find their suitable replacements, these guys arent going anywhere. And also, Sachin is still looking in good shape and probably can carry on for another year or two. He has nothing else to prove. Kapil Dev had the Hadlee record. What does Tendulkar have? It depends on when his body asks him to retire.

As soon as Sachin has a poor series (touchwood he doesn't) i think then it is time for him to retire, considering on the other players performances in the series because he is too old to be given another chance

 soon? They will play for another 3 years.;)

It's irrelevant how long they will play for they will all be retiring within a similar timespan, it'll be a problem if the BCCI don't stagger them out better.

I can see Dravid playing for a while longer than the other three though, hes a little younger isnt he?

It's not as if Tendulkar is in poor form. His average this year is higher than his career average in both ODIs and Tests !
