Sachin Tendulkar Should Retire...

It's not as if Tendulkar is in poor form. His average this year is higher than his career average in both ODIs and Tests !

Yes. I know but now people demand that he scores at six an over in ODIs and Tests. Sachin Tendulkar will never get approval for the rest of his career, no matter what he does.

You mean he will never get unanimous approval.

And he may even get that if he scores 401* or an ODI double. :D Of course, then people would expect him to do it again.

I think it is quite outrageous how some people are almost forcing Sachin Tendulkar out of the Indian Team. He has earned the right to be there for as long as he wants to have score 36 Hundreds at an average of Mid55 is fantastic and he is still one of the better Indian batsman if not the best.

What? He should be in the team if he can contribute better than anyone else for his position. If there is a Bradman waiting in the wings but isn't getting a chance because of Tendulkar, would you say it is fair to the hypothetically-super-talented-domestic cricketer?

It's amazing that the myth about ageing cricketers still exists, considering how many peak after the age of 30 and then there are people calling for them to be dropped five years later just because they're 35. Look at some of the stars of the World Cup. Some are crippled by injuries and some just get tired or disinterested, but experience and wisdom are frequently better weapons than anything a 25 year old has.

Yup, my point though Angy is they are all of a similar age and thus could all retire within a few games (at the same time maybe) of each other. India have to avoid that. They don't want to throw 3 new batsman into a test against someone.

Yes, but making people retire even when they're playing well is not the solution. The solution is to ease the workload on the main guys. Eg. they're resting for the 2020s. They may decide to retire from ODIs.

Perhaps even rest a whole series if it's going to be an easy win - eg Bangladesh, England....

Cheeky little....:D

It would be disastrous for India if their whole middle order retired at the same time.

When is Dravid getting his rest? I dont seem to see him take rest. He has been playing non-stop cricket now.

And Dravid is older than Sachin by a few months, I think. Ask him to retire. Its because Sachin has set so high standards for himself that people always expect him to play the way he used to.

Dravid should ideally rest for the England ODI series and let some one play instead of him. Would also be a good place to test a new captain in the ODI version.

Why should Dravid rest? Just because he's having a bad tour? Dravid has been our best Test batsman over the last few seasons and he's been pretty close to our best ODI batsman in the same period as well.

Also all this talk of rest makes me ask one question--what are all these people resting for? The World Cup is 4 years away and any cricket that is played from now till around then should be played to win, rather than building strategies and such for the future being the main priority. Field the best team, I say. We have enough quality cricketers in our country that we won't slip into Bangladesh/Zimbabwe/West Indies level if our cream retire within days of each other.

The position about resting is different between Dravid and Tendulkar. Purely because Tendulkar has a couple of long term injuries that will always cause him trouble while he plays. His elbow for example, is a long term problem that he has always been open about. Whereas Dravid has no real huge injuries that can effect his fitness for a tour.

I'm not saying drop one of the 3 now, but it's a bridge the board will have to cross and they'll need to do it lightly. But by the end of next year (maybe the start of the next Indian summer) I think they should drop one of them for someone younger.

I think you'd hate to have Dravid, Sachin and Ganguly go within a matter of months of each other and be replaced by 3 players who aren't ready for the international game.

I agree with SS. It's going to be a massive hurdle for the Indian side to climb. Ideally they should be rested here and there to ive further experience to players. But none of the Indian fans would be happy with them not playing, so the Indian Cricket Board will never win.

Not because he is having a bad tour, but if Sachin and Ganguly can have rest, Dravid also needs that rest. He is of the same age, and we dont see the same old Dravid these days. May be he can have some rest to recharge his batteries.

I dont agree with your second point. Even if the BCCI talks rubbish like we play less than other countries, its still a fact that we play too much cricket. In such a packed international calendar, it is wise for the team to build a good bench strength and have players who can replace the main guys in the team. Even though we have quality players in domestic circuit, do we have players who can easily slip into the international team and settle down quickly? I feel people like Sachin, Saurav, Rahul, etc shouldnt player the lesser known teams and unimportant series. They need to give time for the younger lot to get used to international cricket.

I feel we have Kaif, Raina, etc who have enough experience to fill in the shoes of the seniors. They might have had failures but more importantly they have had experience, and failures are not going to remain for a long time for talented guys like them.

Until we find someone to replace Tendulkar, we cant see him retire. Same with Dravid. Ganguly has his replacement - Yuvraj. If Dinesh Karthik can evolve more as a batsman, I can rate him as somewhat of a replacement for Dravid. Technically solid, and he has aggression unlike Dravid.
