there's a time in a great player's career where he's got the real Midas touch...he can't put a foot wrong or place a shot wrong...but that doesn't mean that he's a pauper for the rest of his life...if we analyse careers of Viv Richards, Sunny or any other great from the past there's surely going to be a great peak in the middle where he scored big and quick

You mean to say sunny and viv scored fats....no doubting the capacity of viv but 36 not out in 60 overs.....

mere strike rate does not show how good a player is.... champ.
there may be a batsman whos played only one ball in his life and hit it for a six....
his strike rate wud be 600

dude now u r arguing for the sake of arguing...every one remembers that Sunny scored 36 in 60 overs in the first WC match ever...but few remember that he scored his only ODI century at a strike rate of more than 130 with a fever of 102 deg farenheit against NZ in his last WC...why are we shifting grounds here? we were talking Test cricket abt Sachin...and frankly u don't have enough depth of knowledge of the past to debate on these players...u wouldn't have heard of the great WI batsman grafting in face of bowlers like Lilee and Thommo in 75-76 or u wouldn't remember well the Little Master's exploits in WI esp in POS where we chased 404...or at The Oval where India chased hard to score 430 odd in the last innings where too he played with alacrity...

mere strike rate does not show how good a player is
well i thought it was the pace at which Sachin scored his 94 that prompter u to start this thread and hence the discussion abt the strike rate...we are not discussing a moron who has played only one delivery in his entire life but a COLOSSUS who's the dean of the cricket school u r planning to get enrolled into...compare the strike rates with any such person and then u'll know what we are talkin abt...of course if u choose to keep looking at the unimportant maths of it all then we can as well change the topic of this discussion...if strikerate's not the parameter u r judging the man by then u don't have anything to debate abt... avg? 57.64(highest in 10000 club), no. of runs - 23K...cheer and happiness to his ppl - abundant...character - impeccable...

what about today?
if on a great batting wicket you cannot score runs, then its not worth it being called the world's best bat.okay he did play a few exciting shots but the fashion he got out in was...........*****...
Indians have treated him as a demi god and i suppose the time has come to stop it.Others like dravid ,sehwag, laxman havent got their due inspite of playing so well.
Even manjekar today said"His shot selection was excellent, but the execution just did'nt come off well"
which is quite a stupid statement to make.how can you call a shot that did not go off well to be selected quite properly?

u donno a thing abt the game called cricket - do u???

or do u only look at the fall of wickets section in the highlights???? then probably u didn't look at the way Rahul Dravid got out, or the way Veeru lobbed it back to Kaneria...u've seriously got a prejudiced vision or a nutty one...coz one u are trying to single out Sachin in a long list of failures today and second u don't look at what he did before getting out...

man, he may score ducks for five tests in a row, may be dropped from the team for it and still my id will remain a fact... just coz a few thankless nuts crop up that doesn't mean that the rest are ready to forget the importance of this man to Indian cricket's past, present and future...

Gods do falter and this was one of those days, but that doesn't mean that they are demoted to mortal levels... this isn't a corporate hierarchy dude...this is Indian cricket and when u have accomplished what Sachin has, u simply cannot become mortal even if u want to...

btw, just as I said before, most of us will seriously doubt ur ability to comprehend cricket beyond c2k4 from now on...coz u couldn't understand the lucid statement made by a man who knows Tendulkar better than the most...u know there's a difference between the words - "plan" and "execution"... to play that ball over the midwicket region was the plan, looking at the match situation, which was perfect, but the execution faltered... u r not very well versed with Indian mythology either where we do believe that Gods have the right to falter once in a while...esp after three half centuries...

also, had he not played that attackin shot and played peacefully for his century (which ur dear Laxman, Dravid and the great Pakistani batsman Younis Khan do and did) then he could have easily reached the milestone but he preferred to try and put the opposition bowlers on the backfoot rather than being selfish and play for his own goals... but thanklessness is an incurable disease... alas!

Sachin played a good innings but I think he was just tempted into playing a shot because he saw Sehwag going great guns at the other end. I don't know why iceman reopened this topic when he seemed to have agreed earlier. Besides its not Sachin who caused us to reach the position we did today. It was this snotty old man named Sourav.

i suppose tendulkar does play for his own goals.
you see in the last two test..the one in which he got 10000 runs he said that he did not even know why the crowd was clapping for him.He says dravid told him that he had reached 10000 runs. This does sound a bit stupid considering the fact that he had only a handful to make to reach 10000 before the indians went in for a break.
People are saying that he was temted becoz of sehwag.but thats not a good enough answer because he has batting very slowly even when sehwag was going great guns.(mohali)

dude now this is the height of ignorance...

either u really don't watch a ball being bowled and keep babbling here or it is amnesia... Sachin scored at a strike rate of nearly 75-80 when Sehwag was with him in Mohali. This period coincided with his half century. Then he slowed down, when Ganguly and later Laxman came in. Gimme ur address, when the cd of this series is available in the market, I will send u ten copies of it so that u can verify this from every one of them.

abt approachin the milestone...well he's got no need to lie abt it... if he didn't realise he was this close to his 10000 then that's what he said...tell me one thing that he would gain by lyin abt it... and u mentioned that Dravid reminded him but didn't mention what Jammy said completely... he said something to this effect - "U must be near the 10000 mark, but u should be lookin at 15000". That I think is a good enuf reply to the premise on which ur arguments in this thread are based...and that too from one of the finest of the moment.

okay people .
i was just argueing for the sake of it .
No more here from me now.
I accept my defeat. There are many sachin lovers here and i cannot afford to go haywire about him

Yesterday he did play slowly but that was to save the test match.Great man Tendulkar.

Maybe i should start a thread on the indian captain.I doubt he'd have many supporters after that shock defeat.
