Cricket Academy: Serious Question

That's fine @DAP we can all agree on what we like only but honestly I don't quite understand what your gripe with how things were done in DBC 14 is.

@Bluebagger I had lots of difficulty in getting the mods to work, except maybe Matt's Overlay and Logos! The several hours of gameplay on DBC 14 were spent with unofficial kits! That's why at the beginning of DBC 17 development I didn't care much for Mods! But, the way BA made it seamless to share stuff in cross-platform I begin to care! I couldn't appreciate enough what creators have made, as I used to mod AC09!

But the thing is, how can you have difficulty? The kits for example went in: documents > my games > dbc 14 > textures > team number > characters > tops > and from there all you do is copy the current or modern folder provided with the download

For modding it really doesn't get any easier than DBC 14.

But, as Snowy and me had said you still had to go in-game to get proper ad placements on the kids and everything...

The very fact that this tut A quick tut to get modding in DBC - Don Bradman Cricket 14 Downloads on PlanetCricket Forums for dbc14 modding existed and not for dbc 17 is proof that modding in 17 is easier.

Also the fact that i can just download from academy directly and not be worried about assigning to each one properly, as long as it is from the creators i know that do top stuff is a huge advantage.

i don't think the modding in either was great. in dbc14 the file structure approach, as @Bluebagger says, was pretty straightforward, but there were big shortcomings in terms of the limitations, clashes etc. and the "per team" changes they made actually worked.

in dbc17 downloading mods are easier, but making them is a nightmare, as is applying them from the creators point of view. You also can't vary patterns on shirts and vests/jumpers as you could in 14, you can't mod stumps etc. in fact, the customisation options in DBC14 were broader than in 17 (point in case, and not even a "mod", you could bat in your fielding hat in 14 and can't easily do this in 17.)

both leave a lot to be desired.

all of that are customisation options we need for the academy rather than, a problem with modding method itself. The topic discussion is regarding 14 being somehow easier than 17 for people applying mods.

making them is a nightmare

i would go on and say making them vector is a great move, so everything is made from scratch and is of better quality, instead of image photoshopping.

That's not what I'm talking about at all so im not sure why you've brought up a tutorial. It was extremely easy to install the mods which is the point, if people can't spend a minute or two changing colours then that's on them.

The very fact that I can't use the same kit template for multiple teams is annoying as hell, much less the quality drop on the logos and sponsorship in game action on jerseys, the bats are good but the adboards and jersey sponsors aren't. The very fact you can't even do everything you could in DBC 14 shows modding was better in that game. Sure, I can download teams with preset kits and not be able to change a kit here and there because I'm not good enough to create from scratch so I'm stuck with what I'm given until my logo limit gets reached and I can't download anything.

I also can't express enough how annoying it is that you can't edit the vests.

i'm not talking about the logos, i'm talking about making a "mod". lets take kits. in dbc14 i'd have to edit 1 file for the shirt, 1 for the pants, and optionally, 1 for the vest and jumpers. but then i could use that template for any number of teams and colour combinations. let's say i'm making the WC92 kits (which i've been doing in 17) that's 4 files, and 9 sponsors for the team names and uniform logos.

but you could actually use the same kit template in any colour for any team, not only the 9 that actually played in the world cup.

in dbc17, you have to place i think something like 12 logos individually, but you have to do that for every team, as there is no concept of a kit template that can be re-used. it is much much more time consuming and annoying.

This is why the logo editor was a backwards step IMO but unfortunately the way things work is similar to RLL3 except at least in that game we could replace many existing license kits

The 1992 WC kits for example I was able to use for the mercantile mutual cups of 92/93 since it was the same template. But if I want to create Zimbabwe A I can't just use the same kit in 17 it has to be created which is a bummer

It's designed for consoles which I get but its only half as good as it could have been
