Story Sharjah 2008,Pakistan battle goes in vain-lose by just 10 runs....

Pakistan have very inexperinced batting line up. This should be easy one for Australia.

Debutants make hay while Pakistan toil

Luke Ronchi's 52 and a late burst from Cameron White helped Aus post a decent total against a confident Pakistani attack.

Scorecard

Batting

Fall of Wickets :
15 (2.4,B Haddin) 28 (5.5,R Ponting) 87 (14.5,M Clarke)
135 (23.4,L Ronchi) 156 (28.5,A Symonds) 250 (46.0,M Hussey)

Bowling

Can Pakistan chase down 268 at night? When captain Shoiab Malik was confident that his team would not allow Aus to score more than 200,this sure look very huge.

Wasim Akram : It sure is going to be tough going for Pakistan. They should have pegged down Australia when they were 87/3. But,I must say it was great batting from Cam White,Hussey and Ronchi that saw them to 267.
At Sharjah,it is always tough to chase in excess of 250. For me,Aus are the favorites seeing as Pakistan have an inexperienced batting line-up.Misbah could make the difference here.

Sunil Gavaskar: At 156/5,they could have shot them out for less than 200. But,now they need to go out there and show some spunk. Especially Afridi.
Lets see.As our viewer scion_sid has pointed out,Pak have always done well here.

Presentation :

Alan Wilkins: Ladies & Gentlemen we are at the presentation ceremony for the 1st match of the tournament. We had a great encounter, but sadly, one side has to lose and it was Pakistan today. I'd like to invite Shoaib Malik on stage.

- It was a good match, but we did not apply proper pressure and let them get away from 156/6. Hopefully things can turn around in the next match. It will not be easy but we can always try.

-Well,we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The young stars played very well. Especially Ronchi and White. Also, the bowling was okay, but we could have conceded a little less extras. The next match will be a cracker and the boys are ready to revenge th CB Series Loss.

Man of the Match
Micheal Hussey.

Mahi to sit out for Lanka Match

India captain Ms Dhoni who has a bad back is likely to sit out versus Sri Lanka in today's encounter. In his abscence,Yuvraj Singh will lead the team for the First time.

Ms D will enjoy the action from the hotel room.

Ms D - " It is very unfortunate that i will have to sit out today.I could play, but then i will not be able to keep.Yuvi will do a good job and we have the experienced Tendulkar to show the way. I hope they pull this one off.It would be easier to play against Aus and Pak with a win in our hand. "

Yuvraj Singh - " Its obviously a great honour to lead the team. But,i hope Ms comes back soon enough. We are definately playing two spinners in Chawla and Bhajji and we will look at other part-time options including myself. The toss up is between RP and Sreesanth. Kaarthik will keep and Kaif will get a game as we would be short on batting. '

It's really unfortunate for MS. Should be very interesting how Yuvraj is going to lead from front ;) And in last match, Pakistan could have made a match there.. Very good start to this series. :)

Keep up the great works, Sahil. :clap And also just on a side note, your avie is great.. What a shot that was! :)

I am very happy Dhoni not playing...Yes..
Yuvi will lead better...Nice bowling from Lee..
Nice story go on..

 He(Dhoni) has made two miracles to happen with his leadership abilities.

1) Twenty 20 Cup
2) Winning in Australia.

Especially in the latter one, he made many bold decisions like making Sehwag to sit out.. Giving Praveen more exposure and crucial bowling changes which all worked out in excellent manner. Also, Dhoni himself as a batter exhibited a matured gameplay... I am surprised that you are unhappy with this man.

Harbhajan bowls India to victory !

Toss.

Adam Gilchrist- Well with me I have here today two gentlemen ,both who would like to get off to a winning start. Yuvraj will toss the coin.

Mahela -Tails

Gilchrist- Sri Lanka have won the toss.

Mahela- We would like to bat first as this looks like a good track for spinners. We would like to post a good total and hope that the opposition could be put under some sort of pressure.

Gilly- And your team for the day ?

Mahela- We have Dilruwan with Upul who will open the batting,Sanga, myself and Chamara in the middle order and Farveez,Lasith,Ishara and Murali for bowling along with T Dilshan as an all-rounder.

Gilly- K Mahela, all the best and now to the Indian Captain Yuvraj. Your first match as India captain, asked to bowl first,ok with that ?

Yuvi- Yes,we would have batted first, but i guess bowling wont be bad and we have spinners like Harbhajan and good batting line-up to chase a total.

Gilly- Team for the day ?

Yuvi- Dhoni is out,so Kaarthik keeps wickets with Kaif in as the additional batsman. And for bowling, Piyush and Bhajji as spinners and Ishant and RP for pace.

Gilly-All the best to you two.

Harbhajan Singh was the star of the match for India as they just beat Sri Lanka in the 2nd match of the series. After winning the toss, the Lankans were off to a great start thanks to Perera & Tharanga. Cruisng at 118/1 in the 18th over, the Sri Lankans collapsed to a partly 179 as the Harbhajan Singh magic unfolded.

Scorecard

Fall of Wickets :
50 (8.0,D Perera) 116 (18.5,U Tharanga) 116 (19.1,K Sangakarra)
138 (23.3,C Silva) 156 (26.5,M Jayawardena) 159 (27.2,N Kulasekara)
159 (27.4,F Maharoof) 173 (29.2,L Malinga) 178 (30.4,I Amerasinghe)
179 (31.2,M Muralitharan)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

India just managed to scrape home with Harbhajan and Piyush putting on an unbeaten 88 run stand for the 8th wicket. India,it seems were too over-aggresive in the beginning and it could well have been a sorrry day for Yuvraj Singh, but thanks to Bhajji India managed to win.

Fall of Wickets :
5 (2.1,R Uthappa) 25 (6.0,S Tendulkar) 25 (6.2,G Gambhir)
49 (10.2,KKD Kaarthik) 64 (15.2,R Sharma) 93 (23.1,Y Singh)
95 (24.4,M Kaif)

India should have won this convincingly.. Not a good sign inspite of the victory.. Very lucky win in my opinion. And that RP is turning out to be crap here too. :p

Very neat and excellent presentation. :hpraise

Harbhajan tore the batting order and made some useful runs aswell.
Great works Sahil bhai.
Can I just ask: What game are you playing on?

Great story Icy..
India at last won...Thanks to Bhajji and Piyush..
@Respected Suren
1- T20 is not a game to estimate anyone abilites.
2- Sachin the old horse has won CB series for India...
To estimate all type of abilites Test cricket is Ideal...and he averages 18 against Aus in Test series.:p

Do or Die for Sri Lanka and Pakistan

Todays encounter is a do-or-die one for both teams. The winner will still be in with a chance of making the finals, whereas the loser will in all probability be shunted out of the tournament.

The press conference saw the two captains positive regd their teams chances.

Mahela -
"We've got some youngsters coming through the set-up now so it's going to be a very good experience for those guys and Pakistan is a very good side so we're definitely looking forward to the challenge," Jayawardene said after the loss to India. "
Michael Vandort and Malinda Warnapura, the specialist openers are likely to play. Jayawardene admitted that the onus would be on him and Sangakkara to lead the way with the bat.

Shoaib Malik

"With the changes we are getting and different people coming through the set-up, the senior players will have to take the burden and the responsibility and that is with any team. We've got some exciting youngsters coming through but as soon as they hit their strides they will put their hand up and take a bit more responsibility and I'm looking forward to that but till they are ready it is up to us [senior batsman] to steady the ship."

Jayawardene, though, made it a point to talk about the contributions of Vaas and Sanath, both of whom were left out for the Sharjah tourney
."Those two guys have been excellent servants to Sri Lanka cricket. For the younger generation they spearheaded the attacks for quite some time now and have been giving the guidance to these guys. "

Shoaib Malik-

"Hopefully the younger guys coming through can take much more from other teams like India and Australia. We played well against Aus and got within reach of winning the match.Sadly,we couldnt take it further. We are confident that we will win."
