Sri Lanka vs Pakistan at Mohali

Here we are on this sunny day in Mohali. The pitch is looking normal, so no advantage to either team.
Pakistan look a very strong outfit and could take this competition by storm. Sri Lanka look good, but look like they can collapse. Can the power of Murali be enough?

Well at the toss, Sri Lanka won and elected to bat first. Jayawardene looked as if he would have preferred not to have won it as no one knows what this pitch will do.

Sri Lanka proved exactly what I said earlier. They were going fine on 26/0, then they lost wickets in quick succession and never really found a partnership to save this innings. Kumar Sangakkara had the only decent score of 45 from 63 balls.

The bowler of the innings was most certainly Mohammad Sami. Who'd have thought that this was the same guy who, not long ago, was struggling for a place in the team. And now, he turned out to be the hero of Pakistan's bowling attack.

Pakistan won this game quite comfortably, and were never really under any pressure. Shoaib Malik was the pick of the batsmen with his half century off of 72 balls, which included 6 boundaries.

Sri Lanka bowled well on this pitch, but really, their batsmen didn't help them out and they couldn't have done anything about the outcome of the match. The Murali factor troubled the batsmen as he picked up 2-29. But, he was also very expensive going for over 6 an over.

Altogether, Sri Lanka looked poor today, and Pakistan looked very impressive and showed that they are capable of winning this competition.

Pakistan win by 7 wickets and Mohammad Sami won the Man of the Match.

The Blazer must be proud. :)

Aha, a crushing win to kick off the campaign! Expected nothing less. :p

Great presentation, GN, it's very neat and organised. Easy to read and a treat to the eye.

Pak_cricketer said:
Blazer you picked Sami, and Farhat over Hafeez and Rana?
Yep, I picked them both for a reason. Farhat for his flair and ambitious strokeplay; Sami for his pure pace and wicket taking ability. Shame that Farhat failed, but Sami picked up a 5-fer! That certainly justifies his selection, doesn't it? :D

It was a gamble to have Malik open the innings, but thankfully it paid off and he registered a good 50. MoYo as always was class and provided solid batting towards the end of the game.

Good win!

SRI LANKA DOCK PLAYERS WAGES!

Shock reports are coming out of the sri lankan camp that the sri lanka cricket association is refusing to pay the players after their appaling loss to pakistan.A statement from the camp read: the sri lankan cricket association is refusing to play the players wages after our shocking loss to pakistan. The players fully accept this punishment and have vowed to work harder in our efforts in this competion and preparing for the 2007 cricket world cup in the west indies." however muttiah murilitharan is less than happy issuing a statement today saying "i've got a family to feed. i played quite well. This is completely unfair on all the guys. We've spent months training and we had one bad day at the office. It's complely ridiculous. Quite frankly i might go on strike!"

Coach leicetser fox desperately tried to diffuse the situation saying"everyone needs to calm down. It's my job to guide sri lanka cricket through this sticky patch and statements like murali's don't help. I've spoken to the lads and they've agreed to play next time. It's my job to turn things like this into our motivation to go ahead and win the competition. this matter has all been cleared up and is a thing of the past."However there seems to be an rift between the players and the sri lanka cricket association thats always growing bigger. Will this issue be solved or could sri lanka cricket be on a steady road downhill.
