1ST T20I

Live from Kingsmead Stadium, Durban

It's the eve of the first T20 international of the KFC T20I Series between India and SA, their first game after the World Cup.

Indian skipper, Hardik Pandya says the World Cup went well but it's time to focus on the T20Is for the next big tournament, the World T20 in 2024. Says he's happy to see Kohli back in the side considering his form in all formats and the IPL earlier this year. Jitesh will take the gloves today he says, will be nice to see how he can fulfil the keeper-finisher role in the side; No Sanju Samson today

:ind: India XI: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya :c:, Jitesh Sharma :wk: , Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh

Markram, the home captain says it's nice to have India here for a big tour. The WC was good but they are now aiming for the 2024 T20 WC in Windies. He is confident of their batting lineup in the format, with Rilee back in the side. Says Nortje's absence is felt but they have the pacers to back up for it. Only 1 spinner playing today in Keshav, so KG, Lungi, Marco and Coetzee will be the pacers.

:saf: South Africa XI: Quinton de Kock :wk: , Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram :c:, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

1st Innings

1699364673184.png1699364689217.png

A decent fight-back from the Proteas after their openers' cheap dismissals to put 161 on the board. David Miller's attacking 53* at the back end and Rossouw's handy 33 being the main reasons- rest of the batting being simply dismal.

Indian Bowlers do a good job in restricting them from going big. Skipper Pandya himself with 2/28 and Siraj with the top spell of a run-a-ball 2/24. Bumrah rather expensive in his 4, so is Arshdeep. India simply need 162 to win now.

2nd Innings

1699364832980.png1699364844629.png

Both Gill and Virat are gone for ducks and India's entire top 3 is gone for just 12 runs. But SKY kicks things back with a 46(29) followed by a hundred partnership between Hardik and Jitesh; Hardik gets his fifty while Jitesh is unbeaten on a solid 48*, to help India get the chase in 18.5 overs !

SA's bowling got off to the dream start but failed to kick on from there. Jansen got the two big wickets but went expensive for 39 in his 4. Rabada was rather ineffective and Ngidi was also wicketless. Overall the bowling gave it away in the death after a brilliant start.

:ind: India won by 6 wickets (7 balls remaining)

India lead the series 1-0

1699365079319.png

Hardik Pandya wins the MOTM for a brilliant all-round performance of 2/28 (4) and a 54* (31) that ultimately guides India to a win. A true Captain's Performance, leading from front

2ND T20I

Live from St George's Park, Gqeberha

India have just gone 1-0 up in the series, and it's time to see whether they can clinch it today, or do the Proteas fight back to pull it 1-1 ?

Hardik says he was happy with the performance in the first game with both bat and ball, especially against a strong South African side at home. So they will stick with the same side for the 2nd game too and hopefully the winning streak continues.

:ind: India XI: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya :c: , Jitesh Sharma :wk: , Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh

Markram says the batting was definitely not at it's best last game and the bowling really gave it away after a good start. They feel the pitch could turn a bit more today so Shamsi will be replacing Ngidi. No other changes. Hope to put on a better show with both bat and ball today.

:saf: South Africa XI: Quinton de Kock :wk: , Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram :c: , Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi

1st Innings

1699517134198.png1699517146831.png

De Kock stars for South Africa today with a brilliant 83 (57). But with Rossouw's slow 43-ball 48, SA are only able to reach 167/4 at the end- definitely not the best they could have done after such a great innings at the top.

Indian bowlers will be happy with the overall performance as they were able to slow SA down significantly. Kuldeep got the 2 top-order wickets but was rather expensive, while Bumrah was extremely economical. 168 to win at 8.4 RPO for India to win the series

2nd Innings

1699517352149.png1699517367677.png

A slightly tricky chase but India seal the deal with 9 balls to spare ! Gill and Jaiswal give them a rather slow but steady start, but Kohli and SKY pick up beautifully from there to accelerate and cruise to victory

The SA bowlers were rather ineffective and couldn't stop the partnerships as well as big scores, that Reeza Hendricks had to come in at the end to get a raging Suryakumar out- being the only wicket taker apart from Maharaj. Need some real changes in the bowling mindset.

:ind: India won by 7 wickets (9 balls remaining)

India lead series 2-0

1699517604873.png

It is rather fitting that Virat Kohli gets the MOTM, after his crucial 42* (23) that was the key in helping India successfully chase this down without hiccups.

3RD T20I

Live from The Wanderers, Johannesburg

India have clinched the series 2-0, can they complete a whitewash or can the Proteas get that consolation victory for themselves ??

Hardik, skipper of India, says it's been a great overall show from India in the series, and that he knows the team has potential to complete a sweep and the depth in the side is amazing. They will be resting a few players today- Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna come in for Virat, Jadeja and Bumrah. One bowling option short, but Hardik backs himself and one of Tilak/Jaiswal to deliver as the fifth bowler today.

:ind: India XI: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya :c: , Jitesh Sharma :wk: , Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh
(Changes: Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Prasidh Krishna  , Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah  )

Markram says the team performance hasn't been up to the mark in the last few games and the bowling needs to be worked on. Corbin Bosch will be making his T20I debut today. He, along with Tristan Stubbs and Lungi Ngidi are the 3 changes, replacing Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen. The bowling has been rotated around a bit. Hopes that the team today can finally turn things around for them.

:saf: South Africa XI: Quinton de Kock :wk: , Aiden Markram :c: , Rilee Rossouw, Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi

:saf: South Africa to bat first

1st Innings
1699624357421.png1699624415766.png

The new opening experiment of de Kock and Markram fails with both down for a combined 13 runs to Siraj. But Rossouw and Stubbs stitch a brilliant partnership of 142 runs that remains unbeaten. Stubbs has shone on his return to the side at a new position at 4, and that helps the Proteas post 166 on a rather slow batting surface

Siraj bowled well for India with the two wickets up front but they are unsuccessful in any more breakthroughs. Hardik's experiment as 5th bowler sees him carted for 39 runs, and the rest of the bowling could have done better too. But India have another sub-170 total to chase, they've done it twice, another and it's a clean-sweep.

2nd Innings
1699624695390.png1699624711825.png

The Indian batting is rather poor in response, as no one really gets going in the top 7 and eventually just give their wickets up- until Kuldeep surprises with a lower-order knock of 43* that brings India somewhat close in a chase that was already pretty much lost

South African bowlers have definitely improved and put on an all-round show as Lungi and Rabada take 2 wickets while the rest all take one. Shamsi is economical while the others too manage to bowl under 9 RPO and restrict India from chasing it down- A relief for the Proteas as they avoid the sweep

:saf: South Africa won by 13 runs

India win the series 2-1

1699624922169.png

Tristan Stubbs wins the MOTM for his brilliant 79* in his first and only game of the series that helps SA post a total that they could defend.

:ind: India win the T20I Series 2-1

1699707165709.png

India are the champions of the KFC T20I Series by the margin 2-1. A great way to start an away tour

1699707406768.png

Rilee Rossouw wins the MOTS despite ending up on the losing side- For scoring 150 runs in 3 games at an average of 75 and S/R of 125- Well ahead of any other Batsman in the series.

1ST ODI

Live from The Wanderers, Johannesburg

After a win in the T20Is, India will now battle the Proteas at home in an ODI series, their first after the World Cup. Which of the two WC giants will prevail here ??

Rohit, the Indian Captain, says the WC Campaign was good and they were happy to host all the nations for the tournament. But this is an away series and they will not take it lightly. Says with Kohli rested, Kishan slots in at 3 while Prasidh fills in the Bumrah void. Glad to have Hardik fit after his WC injury and happy with how his form was in the T20Is. South Africa are a good team and this will be a great challenge, hope to put runs on board.

:ind: India XI: Rohit Sharma :c: , Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, KL. Rahul :wk: , Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

Bavuma says they are immensely pleased with both their batting and bowling in the ODI format. That they will miss the services of de Kock, who has been a great servant of the team as a crucial opener and keeper. Klaasen will take the gloves while Dewald Brevis will make his ODI debut at the top. Excited for him. Hope to see a great contest.

:saf: South Africa XI: Temba Bavuma :c: , Dewald Brevis, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen :wk: , David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi

1st Innings
1699800920748.png1699800903433.png

Indian openers get them a solid start with Rohit missing out on a fifty but Gill staying in to score 80 runs. But the rest of the batting fails to get going, barring Shreyas who consolidates his position at 4 further with a brilliant 41-ball 61 to accelerate things. But the others' failures and India's rather long tail result in them being bowled out for 264.

Shamsi gets the two important top-order wickets while Maharaj also grabs 2 scalps while being expensive on the other hand. The quicks in Jansen and Coetzee take 6 wickets combined (Nothing for Lungi) and the overall effort helps them bowl India out before a big score. 265 to win for South Africa and it's a battle of fiery batting vs fiery bowling to chase this down.

2nd Innings
1699801152563.png1699801165788.png

South Africa gets off to a very cheap start as their Top 3 is all gone for just 20 runs. Markram steadies things but has to depart at just 36 in his anchor knock; Miller however provides the impetus and nearly takes South Africa home with a scintillating 86-ball 89, with Jansen and Maharaj providing stability at the other end. But they fall short just behind 250 and Miller is stranded on his brilliant innings.

Siraj is brilliant for India again with 3 wickets while Shami and Kuldeep also take a couple each. Hardik surprises with two wickets in just two overs, although from the tail. No wickets for Prasidh and Jadeja, but the unit does not disappoint and defends the total by a whisker of a margin, under pressure

:ind: India won by 18 runs

India lead series 1-0

1699801387381.png

Shubman Gill wins the MOTM award for his sturdy 80(86) that helps India set the framework for a good total, missing his century by just 20 runs but winning the MOTM.

3RD ODI

Live from Boland Park, Paarl

It's the final game of the white-ball leg of the tour, with the series at 1-1; can the Proteas avenge their T20I series loss with another win today, or India hit back to win this series as well?

Rohit says they really didn't bat to their best last game and the SA bowling competed very well and they hope to learn a few things from that. Looking at the future and to build a core in ODIs, they will make a few changes today- Jadeja, Ishan, Shami and Kuldeep go out, and Axar, SKY, Chahal come in for their first game, with Prasidh returning to the lineup. Chahal has been a great player for years and are looking forward to seeing him back.

:ind: India XI: Rohit Sharma :c: , Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav:up:, Shreyas Iyer, KL. Rahul :wk: , Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel:up:, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal:up:, Prasidh Krishna:up:, Arshdeep Singh
(Changes: Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna  , Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami  )

Bavuma says the performance last game was great, exactly the improvement they were looking for. Hope to repeat it and clinch the ODI series today. The winning combo will be unchanged, except Verreynne replaces Brevis at the top. Kyle also had a great domestic season and has done well in his short ODI career, so they will be trying out options. Unlucky for Brevis to miss out, he's a great player. But they are happy with this combination.

:saf: South Africa XI: Temba Bavuma :c: , Kyle Verreynne:up:, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen :wk: , David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Tabraiz Shamsi

:saf: South Africa to bat first

1st Innings

1700054066559.png1700054126467.png

South Africa finds themselves in all sorts of troubles as the entire Top 5 fails to make a score of 30+, until Miller comes in at No. 6 and alongside Wiaan Mulder's handy 44 anchor innings on the other end, he smashes a century to bring the Proteas out of trouble and post a decent score of 245 on a tough batting track

A rather inexperienced Indian bowling unit delivers extremely well to put the Proteas in a tough spot, and will be overall happy with the performance. Siraj was brilliant with 3 wickets while Arshdeep was extremely economical at 3.1, and the entire attack helps India only get 246 as a target. Will they crumble or is it a cakewalk?

2nd Innings

1700054388331.png1700054401789.png

India start off strong with a 67-run opening partnership before Gill departs for 32. Rohit and SKY both score solid 40+ scores to keep them in the game. Iyer top scoring with 61 is the icing on the cake as it helps India get the runs on the board with enough overs to spare, Hardik and Axar finishing it off in style

Coetzee bowls well for 2/39 in his 8, but Shamsi gets smashed for 74 runs whilst taking his 2 wickets. Proteas were unable to get breakthroughs at the right times to stop a good Indian Knock, and it ultimately costs them despite an overall decent performance with the ball. The home team fail to clinch the series yet again.

:ind: India won by 5 wickets (41 balls remaining)

India win the series 2-1

1700054692195.png

Despite everyone contributing decently, Siraj stands out as the MOTM for 3 crucial wickets for 44 runs in his 10, to lead the bowling and restrict the Proteas- to win the series.

I might've done the dumbest thing ever, I edited the 2nd ODI post and posted the 3rd ODI results. (I have a habit of editing the previous post, copying the format alone and pasting it in a new post with edits for the next game). Now the 2nd ODI results are gone forever (from this site, at least). Too lazy to retype it, and not that anyone really cares, so we move on

India win the ODI Trophy 2-1 to add to the T20I win, to win the white ball leg of the tour. Confidence before they head to the test series.
