Solve your computer problem with the help of experts!

Ok, for anyone keeping score I've done the following:
Ensured PSU is powerful enough
Ensured cpu and gpu temps are reasonable (neither above 50oC)
Taken out new PCI card (USB 2.0) as was sharing IRQ with graphics card. still freezing
Run memtest86+ No errors - still freezing

It froze on me earlier whilst watching youtube. I don't see how that can be down to graphics card but that's the only thing in my system that has changed since I started having problems.

I'm having a possible thought about sound card conflicts. I read somewhere that a freeze that involves sound loops (as mine have done) can be due to that. Will try upgrading drivers.

Other advice I've been given is:
Update bios (not keen on doing that in case it goes wrong)
Reinstall Windows XP (can't find CD)

Seriously frustrated...

Hey mate i want help. When i Increase the resolution of the Cricket 07 game it crashes. I have a graphics card and 1.5 GB ram. But why does it crashes? Do you know the solution? If yes please tell me.

Haha, I am n00b at these but google will surely help you.
Now that's a serious advice! :sarcasm

Or could it be my Graphics card?
No, its not the graphics card.

The same problem happened to me when I upgraded my ram. Though, in my case it wasn't just gaming. It used to shut down even when working of softwares like photoshop.

I then changed my ram to the model which I owned previously. If you remember which ram you had before, you can buy the same model again.

I had generic RAM before. This time I spent more money getting top tier rather than generic. Ran the crucial.com check to ensure it was right for the mobo. Like I said above memtest86+ reports no errors although I only did one pass.

I might sound odd, but you may have to switch back to the generic ram.

Even in my case, it said my motherboard is compatible with new ram I was buying, but unfortunately, it didn't turn out so.

Speaking of IRQ problems. I've got a new sound card (PCI), not great but it gets my speakers working, or at least it did. First time in, beautiful, my speakers work for the first time in a few months. Next time I turn the PC on the monitor won't pick up a signal. I know the sound card is conflicting with the GFX card, whenever I take it out it boots up fine. If anyone knows how to sort out IRQ problems, I'd love some help.

Colin.

Can you start from the beginning, I think I've missed something.

Does it completely freeze? Does it recover? Do you get Blue Screens? Is there a pattern to the freezing? Will it freeze if you just leave the PC on but do nothing? Are you able to use at all or is it locking from boot? Have you installed new hardware recently? Any other info no matter how silly you think it is would be good.

2 things I wouldn't do yet though is Upgrade bios or reinstall!

It freezes and the sound loops. Manual restart is the only fix. No bluescreen and no memorydump. The only pattern I can see is when the sound card has been in use. It has crashed several times watching videos online (youtube, bbc site) and also playing BLIC2007.
It reboots fine and everything seems to work ok.
New hardware installed is a StarTech 3 Port USB 2.0 and 2 Port FireWire PCI Combo Card. I've since taken this out and problems still persist.
Other hardware changes are the new graphics card, new PSU and two new sticks of memory.

Is the soundcard onboard? If not try firstly removing it then in a different slot.

My general rule of thumb with things like this, is to strip the PC back to bear bones and try it, then add devices back in one by one.

Soundcard is onboard.
In terms of removing stuff the only thing I can really remove is the graphics card. On the positive side no freezes at all today (although I haven't watched any video or played any games).
