Solve your computer problem with the help of experts!

I dont think its the issue of Windows....
Just check the Device manager for multiple installs of either your graphic card or sound card.....i mean if both the onboard as well as the dedicated cards are enabled, it can cause a problem................

is that the case with you Colin..?
if yes then disable the onboard card and i guess it should work fine

Hello guys (and girls???), my first post in this part of the forums and I hope it is the appropriate place. Being a computer dyspraxic means the solution might be very simple but I still wouldn't know myself so hopefully I can get some help.
I have downloaded the Ashes 2009 demo. I am playing on my laptop which has an okay processor and plenty of memory but onboard graphics and sound card. I can get the game to play in the lowest settings and it runs very smoothly. As soon as I add something more in terms of graphics it's very stuttery. What I would like to know is whether it would help at all to use an external sound card to boost performance. I know this has nought to do with graphics but would it free up some resources somehow??
Second question is; are there any things I can turn on or off in the graphics card control panel (vsync and all that) that might help?
Thirdly: why can I run a game like Pro Evo Soccer or Fifa 09 without any problems on good settings and not this game when the quality and amount of graphics seems in my humble opinion far inferior to those soccer games??

Anyway, appreciate any useful tips or info that can help!

Cheers,

Dutchad

This is not a sound card issue. Tell me more about your laptop specs so we can see if we can tweak anything. Also fifa09 and pes09 need SM 2.0 this game needs SM 3.0
The graphics, for a cricket game is awesome. Your best bet will be to try tweak a few settings or buy a new laptop or desktop

Thanks for taking the time! Here are my laptop specifics. I realise that the graphics card is going to be the big let down here but if there is some way to tweak things to make things reasonable it would save me a lot of money!!!

processor = AMD Turion Dual Core ZM-82 2200 mhz
memory = 4 Gb
Graphics card = G force 8200 m (dedicated memory 256 MB)

Thanks again for any suggestions!

That is an OK card, though I suggest you to run the game in 800x600; high settings and turn off the shadow. Nvidia integrated cards can't handle shadows. Also, opne nvidia control panel and in global settings, turn vsync to "force on". Also if you are running vista, then there is no chance you can get the game to run smoothly on higher settings. Try in Windows XP
Hope it helps.

Good points! Thanks. Will try them out. Whats the deal with vista as appossed to xp? I have vista. Does it use many more resources or something? Are their any things I can do to resolve that somewhat??

Yes vista needs more graphic resources. I recommend installing Xp and dual booting. Try to run the game after switching to vista basic theme, though I am not sure you will gain any performance. Also in Xp, your card will perform great, except shadows you can have all other settings to maximum

chavanak added 1 Minutes and 2 Seconds later...

I'd think the full game would have more parameters to tweak in Graphics settings.

Yes even I felt the same. But what ever tweaks they provide is no use with Windows vista and a laptop integrated graphic chip. At least with Xp we can get decent game play.

Mmm, good point. Most games do have many more options than the demo presently has.

Would it help by turning off all the vista enhancements for the desktop. Would that free up more system power??

It does free up some system power but I don't know if that is sufficient, try to run the game after disabling all the enhancements if it works fine otherwise install XP

Thanks for all the help and tips. I have disabled alll visual enhancements for vista and can now run the game at 800 x 600 at maximum settings...but without the crowd....visually I dont mind the crowd not being there cos it don't look that flash but you lose all the sounds with it as well which is a shame. Maybe the full game will give options to not have the visuals of the crowd but have the sound still playing. Many will find it sad that I have to play at 800/600 but I am just glad its working at a playable rate with decent graphics.

Great to hear that. Enjoy the game :)

No, not at all, because when you run a full screen application [in this case, the game] Vista automatically turns them all off.

My first post in this section....:p

I have this small problem...

In our Network, my Computer is one of the client system having a Win98 SE OS. All these days , when I booted the system, I used to get the Enter Network Password screen, which is quite normal.

But from yesterday, after this login screen, I am getting another 'Welcome to Windows' Password screen which is unwanted. I think someone fooled around in the Control Panel-> Password by setting a password.

How do I make sure the second login doesnt appear i.e disable the Windows Password (but point to be noted is the Network Password screen should appear)
